If you put all your airports/off airports on SkyVector, you can make a cool map of the places you've been.  These are mine:

In North American Continent (US, Mex, Canada, Hawaii)

      In AUSTRALIA  (MegaFauna 2014, etc)

ALL  (get's a little crowded in this view)

We had a GREAT day flying today!!! Two new airports for me-- this morning a really cool one CA66 (private (newly grass) strip on cliffs over Santa Cruz-- that we are working on an invite for ALL of us to fly at. Then this evening Henry & I went in to Class C crossed the surface twice along the Monterrey Cannery Row (Steinbeck) and we landed on 28 R just for fun, then one more new airport (Marina) before flying back to Monterrey.

  • Ken

Sounds like quite an adventure so far! Hope your rv is ok

  • XC Triker

Big adventures here: Unexpected winds yesterday, but GREAT conditions by the time I got to ButtonWillow & we all went flying in buttery air. Good this am to see the balloons, & even OK by the time Peter got here. Then unexpected winds / storm moving earlier than expected. Lifting up tied down trikes-- we moved the RVs in as a wall to block the wind & hunkered down. May take off at 5am tomorrow for Yosemite-- we'll see. Oh, did I mention our RV caught on fire- seriously-- fridge had 3' flames coming out the side- probably minutes from going up like a stack of hay (these things are famous for that). Got away with swimming today on our moto ride to the lake.

  • XC Triker

Hi Jake, we'll see you here. It's 6:33am we're getting a late start to go see the balloons.

  • Jake

Glad you all made it. Trike is ready to go, gonna try to be airborne from Lodi by 9, should be to buttonwillow by 1 or 2.

  • XC Triker

Out at Buttonwillow-- great flying this afternoon. Five of us up for dawn patrol tomorrow. 1 or 2 more trikes coming tomorrow.

  • XC Triker

Anyone want to do a reconnaissance flight over Buttonwillow and Cuyama this weekend? @HenryIMGW? Peter, Dave? Anyone want to ride along? @DaleDidion?

  • XC Triker

Hey David, yes of course bring him over.

  • white eagle

David one possability may be to blow the carbon out of the exhaust and unspent fuel from cylinder.just as.racing cars do.Mike Theakie called me I had him check it out and shortpack it and engine.said it was as good as new.our we still invited to er and if so when. I haven't talked to Tom in a while and he looks like he's having joyride tinkering on his tanarge.talked with Tom donavan today so iam looking for him to join alltrikes. Do we accept French comp trikers. Anyway he's cool Guy.should have blog on who's the most liked trikerguy. I vote geoblase?

  • XC Triker

Thanks David- Makes sense with a 503 to prevent shock cooling, also "choking the engine to death." There was a reason for the 912 I think I heard, just trying to reconnect with it.

  • white eagle

I have been told to run my engine up after landing on long glide final to super lube my cylinders but of corset that's 503 . Can't imagine why with912.

  • XC Triker

Hey, remind me, I think I was talking to a triker who advised after landing to run the engine up to full RPM before shutting down. I never heard that before-- if you've heard that or told me that, remind me again why?

BTW got trike up for 10 t/g today, took a passenger for a couple, great to be back in the air! Oh, the guy (a C-172 pilot) said, "If you were a dealer for these, you would have just closed the sale!!" Spreading the word, 1 pilot at a time- Resistance to triking is futile, you will be assimilated.

AOPA Article (unfortunately-Log In required): Buying an aircraft: ‘As is’ can cause a lot of pain
In aviation, we see many terms. One that I find can often be misunderstood or subject to interpretation and debate is the term “as is,” and it is a term commonly used in aviation sales and lease transactions, whether it’s an airplane, an instrument, or a hangar. In our legal practice, we find that it is almost always after the fact that the import of the term is truly understood by the parties. Therefore, it is important to understand what the term may mean to you before signing on the bottom line.

This just in- from the FAA: "Update-Air Traffic Control Facilities Closure-Update
    Notice Number: NOTC4700

On February 22, 2013, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Federal Aviation Administrator (FAA) Michael Huerta jointly announced the possible impacts of a budget sequestration on FAA operations. This announcement included notification of potential closure of over 100 air traffic control towers, with those impending closures beginning April 7, 2013. The FAA has subsequently changed the closing date to June 15, 2013 and released a list of 149 control towers that will be closed."

Thank you very much for your help by creating my SkyVector map!

  • Ken

I like the sounds of that!

  • XC Triker

Have any of your guys ever double-sunsetted? If you're flying near sunset, you can watch the sun go down (in itself cool to see from the air), then rev the engine up, push way out, climb up and see the sunset twice on the same day!!!

Is anyone thinking of going to the 16hr LSA repairman course by Rainbow Aviation in Corning California on March 28-29, 2013 (Thur-Friday)? $350 !!! (Yikes) Afterward you can do your OWN annuals (not other people's). Good excuse to go flying up northern Calif!
Does anyone else give this course (at a lower price)?
