XC... Hedgeview also gave me back seat in his AC Tarnarg beast (thank you HV). Think the shopping (or wish) list's in need of some deep pockets, but amazing engineering. Chalk & cheese to the XT farm hopper I'm accustomed to... just awesome... The aviation community's openness and preparedness to share has been an incredible journey that just gets better the more the network expands. I'm forever paying it forward, so when it comes back, unexpected & phenomenal experiences. Thanks again YFT, Anne & Hedge... (& CB for the late night going over the R4's...). Airshow here this weekend - watching planes from the backyard today & with CB and Noel C there tomorrow...

Um, I came across a HG video that is NSFW. Probably shouldn't be posted publicly here, but if anyone else wants the links to it, I can email them to you-- pretty funny ;)

  • XC Triker

Twilight- departing- conditions calming down ;) Should be all good- short hop. C ya on other side.

  • Janet

The FBO sounds nice! Glad you have somewhere comfortable to hang out while you wait for the winds to calm. I didn't realize that Jim and Dale came to your lecture - nice!!!

I'm having trouble getting home. Sitting now in a posh Jet Center FBO in Santa Barbara- free cookies, coffee and WiFi. I already got my 6 gallons of gas one airport South- I thought that was all I needed to get home- probably is. Nice on the ground here, sunny winds 5 switchy, but above, winds are 30+ MPH opposite direction of ground here / headwinds. Home is about 60 miles ahead over a mountain and has almost 50% gust factor currently from 20 to 28-- usually it is ok in winds, but it was rough above, so I diverted here to wait for evening when it's predicted to mellow out. Couldn't take off early from LA due to low clouds until about 1pm :( Not easy going, good thing my meeting cancelled today, but all is good and I can get some work done here ...

Oh, when taxiing in, ground gave the aircraft behind me instructions to follow the "hang glider thing with wheels ... you don't get to say that often ..." I told them I just gave a talk on these trikes in LA and they are quite capable, maybe I could give the talk here as well ... ;) He said they have a meeting tonight, but I said, maybe I'll catch the next one.

Just starting to wind down from a long and exciting weekend of flying. Flew from Salton to San Diego (Class B) today with Dale and over Hotel Del Coronado, SD Intntl, La Jolla, New Port Beach, etc, up the coast into LA Class B to Fullerton for a lecture on trikes tomorrow. Some time to rest, and get lecture prepared. Lots of pics to post soon. Peace & Blue Skies

Hi Jozinko, yes we need to formally ask our masters here if we can go to Oz. Not sure why we need to ask, the NSA & Google already know what we're thinking ... ;)

  • Jozinko

Hey David, you need a visa too? I though only a people from post-komunistic countries needs it. I have a new Pilot licence, because my old will be expired in May. For three months later, we will be in the middle of Megafauna Fly-away. I look forward to meeting you!

  • XC Triker

Hey Delta ( @glandgraf1 ), I got to fly a Skypper recently-- it was a hoot! Yeah, let's get together. Next big opportunity could be Salton Sea Feb13-16 (see events)

  • Delta Wings

XC Triker, I have a A/C Skypper A Great Machine, I have flown with Norm, Doug, and Neil. I just got my CFI and will be flying out of Tracy. Hope to catch up with you some time in the near future.

In case anyone's interested or was there, I posted a bunch of shots from Havasu. They're logged-in view only though...

  • XC Triker

Had an unexpected problem requiring a new aftermarket part to be shipped. Worked on trike all day today and was able to test fly it at night & later a night flight along beach. Very nice. Now ready to go to Lake Havasu Balloon event-- a2 days late, but ... Picking Pat from El Mirage up on the way.
Anyway, that's why I've been quiet lately, but will have some cool photos to post soon.

  • XC Triker

Yes, sad news. It was eery to see the search helicopter still combing the water at midnight last night. It was not a trike. GA airplane. Rumor has it two perished.

  • white eagle

hey all just a quick note xc was at his hanger this afternoon when a ga aircraft crashed on takeoff into the ocean.l52 dosnt sound good best information i have is 2 soles on board plane is submerged and a coast guard copter is on scene.

Getting video from a DVD is super easy. Just need software. Handbrake works great

  • XC Triker

Sounds very awesome Kevin !! Posting from a DVD to YouTube is tough, but with a screen capture program you could do it-- in 5 to 10 min segments-- Maybe if you send me some DVDs I can arrange that ;)
I thought you already had some movies on YouTube-- that's where I had seen the SeaDoo / Trike adventure before. That was a really well done movie.

  • Kevin S

For years 3 of us guys would go on a Sea-Doo Adventure on Lake Superior every summer for a week. Our 1st trip was in 1985 and we had so much fun and adventure we would do it every year. In 2010 we brought the Sea-Doos and the Trike and nobody got hurt and we had more fun. David Coy has been sent 2 DVD's of 2 of our trips. Maybe he will post them on all trikes for me.

Anyone want 6 Months of AOPA Flight Training Magazine? I've got an offer sitting here on my desk-- all I have to do is fill in the name of someone who wants the mag and send it in.

  • XC Triker

On the first day of 1914, the first airplane flight with paying passengers took off in Florida- 100th anniversary of commercial flight as we know it today.

    nice pic of you bouth

  • XC Triker

Thanks for the help on AvGas you guys. I gave it to a gardener for use in lawn eqpt-- my mower is electric. I used a juggle stick to syphon the last bit of fuel out and noticed it made tracks in a grey film on the bottom of my tank? Never noticed that before since the tank is grey and it was a uniform film- what do you guys think it is? Lead deposits? Something from the lead scavenger (TSP) I use? Algae?

  • Ken

That was around 85 or 86, pretty sure 'regular' was still available. I was riding a Kawasaki GPZ750 back then

  • ULtrikepilot

XC, I have used excess 100LL in both my chainsaw and my lawn tractor. Frankly I think my chainsaw runs better on Avgas than the ethanol laced Mogas so I have abandoned using Mogas in my chainsaw. Yes, in time some Pb deposits will build up on plug but it is easy to clean or replace plug. Don't know enough about the KLR 650 to know whether I'd use it there.

  • XC Triker

Thanks Ken- what year was that? ie was leaded gas avail at car pumps? ie were the engines not tight like modern engines that don't like lead anymore?

  • Ken

We used to go down the airport with our motorcycles back in the olden days, fill up with 100 and have drag races down the runway. Everything ran GREAT!
