I think it was drawing power even though turned off.

Funny as hell until you've lived it. I saw someone once on youtube with much bigger problems than me - he had white carpeting (emphasis on had), I have wood floors. Never underestimate the battery life on a Roomba, those new batteries are incredible!- those regulators fail.you shoud have ac volatge out of the charging coils of the engine around 30 volts at idle.its then regulated and recified thru the regulator to aroung 13.5v dc current to the battery.hope that helps
