What exactly is a "NAV?" Is that Aussie for XC? (I love XC ;) You haven't XC'd yet CB? I'm so confused.

  • crayonbox

Peter, would you recommend the arrow wing as follows -> because I wonder how well it would collapse/fold back to fit in say a containter for storage still mounted on the trike? Or a smaller hanger. I believe the batterns would need to be removed first though? If it saves me hangerage... I think I need to get one. What do you think?

  • crayonbox

Cheers - I'm jealous. I want to do my navs. Tell them well done and keep up the good work. I hope your not letting them fly the new Tanarg! lol

  • YFT

Ok... So you want to know how the two new students are going? Jonathan and Darren have at this point in time completed nearly 5 hours each. They are sitting down in the Hangar completing a flight plan for a NAV. They are doing very well. and should solo soon. I will give you another up-date later, CB.

  • crayonbox

Hey down there - what's the goss on the boys - I need daily updates ;-)

  • YFT

Yep I have heard that it not been to good up your way. We did a 1.5 hour formation flight this morning. Then the rain followed us back. We had a great flight around the mountains last night. I said to the others " This is why we become pilots.

  • crayonbox

haha, you think the weather might be better up here for a change - just ask them about weather lol. Have a great week. i look forward to having some flying buddies.

  • YFT

Hi CB, Yes the two boys should arrive in Melbourne in about 3/4 of an hour. Then they have a three hour drive to Yarra. We start their training at 0800 in the morning. I just hope the weather holds out for them. Its raining right now.

  • crayonbox

Peter, I hear you have two Qld VIPs visiting this week!

  • YFT

    The Hangar Queen is Gone.
Many years ago a Black Cat decided to adopt us. She never damaged any of our aircraft, and she lived in the hangar and looked after the place when we were away flying. Her name was moorow, as this was the sound she made. She moved three time with us from airport to airport. She was the Hangar Queen. She died today. I sat her in the afternoon sunset and held her as she past away. She will be missed.

Thanks YFT. I've inked Oz Megafauna 2014 on my calendar-- I'm coming. The only thing I worry about is my two dogs- they're our only children and they will be 15 by them, if they're not doing well by then, I'll have to stay with my best friends and come later. Otherwise, I'm coming.

Hi All, its crunch time! I am going to start planning the 2014 Megafauna Fly-away next week. Depenting on how many pilots and crew are coming over for this trip will depend on where I will plan to take you. I am planning to start on April 13th and finish on May 4th. This would be a 3 week fly-away. I could make it a 2 week fly-away. The main thing is I need to know numbers. I will also have to get aircraft for you to fly. So right now have a think about it and let me know by emailing me on Alltrikes, or at YFT. I will be teaching/lecturing in Melborne this week, which means I will not get any emails until Friday.

  • XC Triker

That's great YFT! I really like the Tanarg for XC. I didn't know it made marriages better ;)

  • YFT

This was the first Megafauna Fly-away that I have taken a Tanarg on. So how did it go? Well all I can say is fantastic!!!! My wife Anne after having a broken back many years ago, can only fly for about an hour before she needs to get out. This trip we had two legs that were nearly 3 hours long. At the end of the first 3 hour leg I asked Anne how she felt? The answer was NO PROBLEMS... when we landed Anne was able to get out of the aircraft and walk around without any affect from the long flight. This was a first. In the XT-912 Arrow if we flew for more than an hour I would have to help Anne from the aircraft and it would taken about 5 minutes for Anne to get mobile again. Thanks to the large cockpit, Anne is able to enjoy the flying a lot more.

  • XC Triker

Congrats YFT-- keep cranking them out, but use indelible ink.

  • YFT

Another student went SOLO yesterday. Tony from Cobar... I know you are saying where the hell is Cobar. Its about a third of the way up Australia. Anyway Tony went Solo and then it was off on a 2 hour Nav. The first part of the Nav was in light rain, and the last leg was in heavy rain. Yes Tony got me wet and all my notes on my kneeboard went west as I had written them with a whiteboard marker.

Hm, if you break down by engine type you will have about 5 for Rotax alone (unless you lump smaller than 582 in one cat), then 2 for Hirth & 2 for HKS would be 9, Other would be 10 (such as BMW or Geo metro). In regards to wings, WAAAAY over 10 types-- maybe just stick to manufacturer, or Single surface, Double surface, Double surface small ???

  • YFT

YFT NEEDS HELP! I intend putting up two new polls. The first one will be "What engine do you have on your trike?"
The second poll will be "What wing do you use?"
What I need is a list of wings and engines. For instance, with the engines, should we have ROTAX, or should we have e.g. ROTAX 582, ROTAX 912, Hirth, HKS, or include the horsepower as well? I need your suggestions and engine types. Remember, we only have 10 spaces on the poll field.

Hey yft I meet kameron about 4 years ago.l got to fly his quest I think it was 13.5 meter wing.anyways I really liked it and thought it handled very nice in turbulance.then I flew Scott Johnson's abourne wing and thought it just awesome.but I don't think ill be completely satisfied untill manufactures build them out of feathers and find a way to attach them to my back.I really miss working in the industry I worked for electraflyer and American aerolights in the pioneering. Days we produced the spirit c3 c4 hang gliders and the eagle XL and the falcon canarge ultralights.now I look back and they were just floating lawn chairs?

  • Ken

I guess we need to know the criteria for best. Los and slow? Cruise speed? Handling agility?

  • YFT

Who can tell me, What is the best wing that Northwing have made?

  • YFT

Hay Jozinko, you are now Famous in Australia. Sports Pilot Magazine has published an article on you. I will send you a copy with your care package from YFT.

  • YFT

After two weeks of flight training Jagsy has passed the final test. He Now has a licence to learn.
    Well done.

  • XC Triker

Sounds Fun YFT!!! ;) That's real flying!
