  • Jozinko commented on a page titled HKS to discontinue production of its engines
I dont heard it. I heard, the Rotax factory stopped production of their 2-stroke engines.
  • I just saw a notice that HKS has discontinued production of its engines.  Not really sure about the reasons.  Kind of a shame because many thought HKS provided a nice 4-stroke alternative to Rotax options.  We need more options not...

My engine at the moment is just 80 hours or so, I suspect it will be some time before I might need the parts. I was thinking after reaching the TBO to convert the engine to an HKS 700t. I guess there will be many other options at that time...I guess there is no need to worry. I am still not too happy about Rotax's monopoly.

What are the typical components of the engine that are changed/rebuilt during an overhaul?

    • XC Triker

This sucks.  We need HKS and more engine companies.  (BTW:  Wait till you see the wild BMW powered amphib trike we saw out at Slab City--   Wow, Mad Max lives !!!)

Sounds like the advice he gave me as well. Had him help me with systems for both of my trikes.

Hi Ken, I was not able to open the file, looks like a pdf.  BTW, I too have a custom Second Chantz system for my trike.  Never received any written documentation on John's recommended bridle routing but I did have a conversation with him when he said he prefers a low (close to center of mass) final attachment point which I suspect is usually close to where engine support frame attaches to trike frame.  Thanks for sharing!

Yoshiyah, glad to hear you are finding solutions.  I wish I had a pic of my trailer rig for you. My trike is off the trailer in the back yard without the wing for work/inspection.  But a few thousand words later you got the idea.... view reply

Maybe you should get some closed cell foam and make a cover to surround each of your prop blades.  That would help. view reply

Boy I was really pissed yesterday and was trying to hold it in. I get sick when I do that but I have to maintain my social graces and not be the neighborhood A-hole cussing and swearing all the time. It really was a horrible moment when time slowed... view reply

Yoshiyah,  You have received some great suggestions.  Doug's suggestion of locking control bar into position before folding is right on.  A quick way to lock it vertically if you have a shortened compression strut (some call... view reply

Doug, Ok, I get it on the lock issue. Man you guys are really helpful. I really needed all this brain power. I did try to get the wings back from underneath but for some reason it did not work. It would start to move back and then stop. I... view reply

Yoshiyah,  You mentioned checking with Kamron B. about a "lock" (I said that, my bad choice), I want to be clear that I meant to lock-it in place to take the weight, as you swing the wings back. I'm sure he will give you a good... view reply

Ken, I did try to use rope to hold the control bar but it stretched and did not work. I can try a strap but if I can make a ratchet cable run forward to the bar from underneath, I may try that. As I think now, two long straps hooking to the control... view reply

Finally let me say, I am going to look into the control bar support  dolly Bill Pilgrim spoke of and the two ratcheted cables secured to the seat frame Doug Smith mentioned. Both are good ideas. I had no idea all this would occur with a fold... view reply

I dont know what  sewer pipe is but you can bet I will find out. Sounds perfect. I dont know yet how it will go buy I may look at the plastic pipe wing support first as $$$$ is always an issue. Welders wear lab coats and think they are doctors.... view reply

For the rear support I have seen two styles. 1 uses a fork shape at the bottom to straddle the axels, and I had one made of 1" square steel that pinned in to holes on top of the metal part of the outer axel - wanted to be sure it didn't... view reply

Maybe I feel a bit like Gomer Pyle. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Or maybe it is a  little like  Dorthy (no wise cracks) in the Land of Oz and everybody got to see the  Wizard. Thank you Ken, Bill Pilgrim and Doug Smith.  I... view reply
