Glacier Park

By Ttabs Comments (15)

Recorded Aug 4th 2014, George, Henry and I had a blast! Here's my comments on the vid on youtube:

Despite the haze from near by fires, this particular morning the winds were exceptionally calm which allowed us access to just about anywhere we wanted to go in the park. As George, Henry, and I approached, we climbed to 10,000 ft and were greeted with smooth air and temps in the low 40's. The trikes averaged about 80 mph. The video does not do justice to just how immense and magnificent of a place this truly is. I found it to be absolutely breathtaking doing what I call 'Swan Dives' off the various peaks and ridges. One moment I was a few hundred feet above towering rock and the next I was 1000's of feet above a deep valley. I was somewhat uneasy getting too close to peaks because of the shear size of these giants made it difficult for me to judge the scale of things. In the various canyons below I could see spectacular hiking trails that beckoned. Logan Pass is the apex of the 'Highway to the Sun' and is a 'must do' when at the park. If you have not yet visited Glacier Park in Northwest Montana, consider putting it towards the top of your bucket list. Music: Good for Me by Above & Beyond

Tom,  That was fantastic.  I could almost feel my groin turn inside out as you cruised over the razor sharp ridgelines.    I want to see a Swan Dive now.

Very nice Tom !  We did have a blast and this captures some of the flight so nicely... the vast expanse and shear size of what laid before us here was spectacular and exhilarating... it was definitely good for us !  Thanks Tom for taking time to capture and post these great shots.

Thanks everyone!  We had a blast in Polson this year!  I really enjoyed seeing everyone and doing some great flyin' with friends.  I have a ton of video to wade through so perhaps that will keep me busy in the following months.  I'll have more to share.

Yeah ... between the three of us I think we had about a dozen cameras going... I had to laugh when I saw Henry's mobile video studio setup (charging hubs, wires, extended life batteries, and cameras everywhere)... quite high tech.  It will be great to see some of the other pictures and video from the Polson fly in which was the best of times.  Lots of amazing video yet to come, I'm sure !

Well, I had to log in to comment on this one, as i should on many of the great views y'all have shared!

It remarkable to see the views of places we've maybe never been, and to realize that these places are here in the USA and not in some obscure filming location for a Hobbit Movie (no disrespect meant).  I must say I get a little queazy thinking about the "what if's" I experience, flying a 2 stoke powered ultralight, when I look at the amazing terrain.  Thanks for taking the time to share.

  • Ttabs

Thanks Jackye - sometimes you have to leave those 'what if' thoughts at the last LZ and just go for it.
