Are you still running some type of air filter on the carbs?
Air filter is usually between the carbs. Only for winter flying I demonted it and fly without it. We have a big experience with this system. My father made it first time at year 2000 on his VW engine. My old VW hadnt any air filter. Never. We never have any problems. Other pilots, who my father modified VW engines for trikes, had never problem too. All flew without air filter. And the engine had a little more power ...
