Every time I go at Barnstormers, they have this ad by http://www.navstrobelighting.com/ , these are cheap 24-32 dollar lights. Has any of you used them and if so what can you tell me about them. I just thought of adding some "bling bling" to my Trike. Now I have very nice strobe lights (that came with the trike but are not installed) but they require more power and the new LEDs are more power efficient. I don't care if the LEDs are not FAA approved..just want to add some Bling Bling...your thoughts?

Well Rizz, these bulbs will require a female 'bayonet' socket receiver housing and a water proof cover glob to operate.  You will have to have that to mount them to your trike and that seems to me to be a lot of work to save a little money, if you save any money at all.  If your main concern is about power usage why not bite the bullet, pay the price and install these on your trike instead

I have installed a pair on Lucinda's trike and Skybird has installed them on his.  They are purpose built for the application, waterproof, are VERY well made and really put out the lumes while consuming very little power.  I believe XC Triker and Jeff Trike have them on their trikes as well.

Thanks Joe, those lights are very nice, I think, you are right, XC triker has the same one. They look very nice. I will try to see if I can sell the one I have and start saving some money for something this nice (but pricey) :)

Rizzy, remember that a strobe is for a use on an aircraft, not just a little flashy bling, and that is to be seen by other aircraft.  That sort of gear does cost some money.  If you just wanted some flashing lights you could buy that stuff off the internet for around $15.  However, good luck with standing out in the sky as a speck to another aircraft with simply blinking lights.

Proper strobes designed for aviation do the job of making you stand out in the sky, day or evening and that sort of luminance does not come cheap, unfortunately.  A few flashing lights may look good on the ground as you stand 10 feet away but you will be lost in an open sky with the very cheap stuff.  A good strobe is well worth the money, we also sell them with MicroAviaonics by the way.
