..... UPDATE 4PM "HIS JACKET COULD HAVE SAVED HIM": pilot's fight for life
SURF lifesavers who pulled the pilot of a downed light aircraft out of the water say his waterproof jacket could have saved him.
Surf Life Saving Queensland duty officer Guy Tanner said the IRB was launched immediately this morning just after 7am to reach a pilot who had plummeted into the ocean.
He said the lifesavers reached the man within minutes. He was floating face up with his helmet still fastened.

Hope all is well down there. Sounds like they might have been able to recover this fellow. Hope he is alright!!!! Not sure if its one of our members or not. @CrayonBox - isn't this near where you fly? Speedy recovery and Fly safe!
Ken, yes I know Tony and have flown with him. So this is too close. I have flown into Noosa a few times. Watching this one closely.
Please do not speculate anything. I know nothing. This is sad news for us here.
crayon box just tell me this is not cfi tony please
The cfi at noosa is David, and it wasn't him. As the name of the pilot has not been officially released i dont want to say anymore.
yes i understand the sensitivity crayonbox.let us know at the apropriate time.the most positive thing that can come out of an accident is that we can avoid it in the future.as always the pilots recovery is in my thoughts.
I hope only, he will be OK. But, like WE wrote, understanding the cause of this accident, can help us to avoid that mistake.
