PILOT TERROR!

this was todays F.U. i had flown, landed, decided i need even more fun, took off, drifted a coupla feet too far left, the wheel hit a berm and over we went. pilot error, no excuses. much destruction, wing, prop, forks, instr. housing, possible crank damage, they don't appreciate being stopped abruptly! most wing tubing is either fractured or bent etc. my legs are turning all pretty colors after being used to tear the instr housing loose, i lost a shoe and some meat off the right heel, my titanium knees are swollen, etc, but at least i didn't roast alive, gas was pouring ang splashing over me, pump running, couldn't find the switch or undo my seat belt, big relief when i fell out, then i couldn't untangle the shoulder belts. don't do this at home, or any where else! it's kind of a nuisance having to use a walker but legs ain't functioning too well with the swelling and a few chunks missing! but if anyone out there decides to' bunt' his trike be sure to mount a video camera so we can all enjoy the fun! i found my shoe and cell phone 100ft behind the wreck, the phone had been in an inside pocket! pretty violent,i'm still finding little bits of body damage on me! i'm not quite ready for golf or 'flower arrainging yet! but i'm trying to figure out how to tell my wife i'm gonna be breaking into the kids 'inheritance money' to fix my trike! check the control tube! coulda really hurt.

this crash was entirely pilot error, 100%. preventable, and stupid! so, how can we benifit from the comments, all of which contain usefull suggestions. our being able to dissect the actual impact frame by frame provides educational info as to what actually happens, not relying on 'eye witness' accounts. i personally won't attempt flights from this particular 'curved runway' again, even though i've 'got away with it ' hundreds of times before! my 'skinny' tires/wheels will go back on, less drag = quicker take off, i had hoped that the phat tires would give me a chance of landing on a ploughed surface, which is almost 100% in this area of AZ, in the event of an engine out, but i don't think even a wide tire would prevent a 'roll-over, and haveing tried it, i don't wanna do it again. also, my lock-stops , a steering damper and cables didn't prevent the mayhem visible on my photos . why my feet weren't crushed i don't know! so i will install solid stops and restricted lock to prevent the forks twisting into 'foot crushing' mode. a gas vent with 'upside down' leak stop valve will be installed. that nifty control panel will be redesigned to NOT hurt my legs again! the master switch and kill switches will be more accessable, those few seconds smelling gas and being unable to release the seat belt and being kinda' upside down seemed a 'lot longer'. the control tube is gonna have an internal cable, the jagged ends of it coulda' stuck me! some stuff worked well! the shoulder straps i've always pleaded for worked! i repeat I'M A STUPID ARSEHOLE but you don't have to be! we all need to learn from each others mistakes. keep the rubber side down! , mostly!

Ouch! Glad you are OK. I'm really impressed with the seat belt! Thanks for sharing that with us. Always contemplated taking off on a curved road I know of. .... feeling cured of that thought all of the sudden. Hope you can rebuild her

Dont beat yourself up over it monty.  Its very easy to misjudge an outfield runway. As you can testify it all happens so quickly, than the shock of having an incident and trying to get out of your machine quickly.thats a real boogar when you are wrapping all that emotion up  coupled with looking to see if you are injured. Then that thought flashes in did i really just do that! Then the disapointing repair or replacement of your machine!                    I can say now that i second guess and hard look over  for hidden challenges to my outfield lzs. I can say for sure that there are a few places on some frontage roads that ive said well i could take off their. But just watching your vid ive  had to review  that convincing myself that distant power line is no problem. I can see iam ignoring that hack saw barbed wire fence to my left drift. Just think how many pilots will reavaluate their lz options because of your video.  Thank you monty
