First Flight in 2016 - Software Stabilization Comparison

The air was rowdy just before a big storm coming in, 10mph gusting15mph on the runway, 35mph gusting 45mph at 1500 MSL. My trike was tossed around pretty good during the short flight. The footage is good sample for software video stabilization. I used Final Cut Pro on Mac Pro for editing. The first half is normal without stabilization and the second half is stabilized with the editing software.

Very nice Henry. A noticeable difference. Great job handling the weather.

Thanks Rick. It was a bumpy flight. The real purpose of the flight was to test my home-made camera mounts. In all the trikes I flew so far (including Revo), I had some 'Jello effect" on my videos, which is caused by the high frequency vibration from the engine. I have been woking with Larry to minimize the vibration from the engine. Larry developed the special mounting washer for that purpose. But, each part of trike has different resonance frequencies. Also, it is impossible to balance the prop on all frequencies even by dynamic balancing. So, there is a limitation to eliminate all vibration from the engine to other parts of the trike.

This time, it is tottaly different approach. Installing rubber on the camera mounts to eliminate the vibration. As you see, there is almost no "Jello effect" on the footage. I flew the trike with variable engine speeds between 1800 and 5700 RPM. The key point is the softness of the rubber and tightness of the bolt to go through it. Many try and errors. To get here, It took more than 30 test flights, more than 5 mounths.

Thats a big effort.... . Way to keep at it Henry!

Happy new year! Hope to share the sky with you in the near future!

Yes, a lot of effort. I am going to try some material I have left over from mounting the third radiator. A vibration isolator material called sorbothane. See if I can eliminate the jello from the cello.

That was a rowdy ride! Nice work Henry. Steady progress toward more professional videos.
