Oh my you mean theres people who mimick larry

That's a little harsh David. I don't think you'll find a vid of Larry low over water like that.

Yup sorry i guess it was but he does fly low and fast over fields barns and houses landing with hands off
Skipping on one tire. So in my years of hang gliding i vowed that i would not condon or bow to a popularity contest
To ignore wreckless behavior. And iam sure that i will never be popular really dont care i can live with my concience.the rules for safe piloting should not discriminate between the popular and unpopular.thats how you improve saftey.the best pilots and manufactures should be the leaders by example.ive been involved in manufacturing since the 70s.saw the same thing back then.not to be morbid but a girl i once flew with whom i saw stall on launch more than once got incouraged to go fly a dangerous launch by pilots who were popular and doing the best videos. All i can say without being to graphic is that i told her she was not ready to go fly with all the handsome popular guys.i told her they didnt .6 months later she was still on life support and her looks were all gone.in our efforts to glorify are selves.i maybe foward here i have been polite but i will not hide or suppress my view. We are imitator beings ill respect those that lead by example. We all talk of wanting this sport to be self regulated and complain about the faa. But dare not challenge those who lead by bad example to others for the sake of selling exspensive machines for there own glory.we certainly could bash the owl kicking guy and thats ok he got what he deserved.but dare not implicate the popular.hell bill ive never crashed in thirty years but that never helped me get a rating or recognized.hell i quite tps because i just quoted an old profi advisory after some crashes and got the tps bulldogs after me.i like you bill iam not trying to be rude just sticking to what i believe. Iam mearly stating it looks like hes imulating larrys demo video. Sure larrys a great pilot and does it well.but does it make excuse for the fact that people imulate it. Remember the dead cant post so i lose half my position right there.if i cant say it than i wont be here.

Issues that don't look great to me are (multiple bad combinations):

    1) Seems to have poor throttle / altitude control.  Engine constantly surging, altitude changes abrupt at low altitude--  suggests maybe he's a low time pilot (unfortunately flying in a low margin for error area).

    2) On youtube, it says this is his only video.  Nice quality video.   New trike + new pilot + new camera = "Hey watch this ..."

    3) Given the above-  (young, appears new to the sport, new camera) =  hard to say he was not influenced by others filming low flights and getting "youtube" recognition for doing so.   That's just really too bad, and a message to others to consider.

    4) He's flying low over water, steep turns over water, and beside a beach that has many innocent / uninvolved people--  I don't think I could effect a safe emergency landing on that beach during the majority of the time I see.

    5) He has a young passenger.   Passenger probably not aware of the danger of what is going on.  Having been a male teenager at one point-- I can say he's probably not thinking at all about safety for himself or others.  Even if he was made aware, the teenage male is invincible, and has no wisdom to tell him otherwise-  back to video examples, in his mind, "Lots of people do this!  It's cool !"

    6) Is that even a two passenger trike?

    7) Lots of hands off waving to the crowds.    (Crowds + no hands + low = tragedy waiting to happen.  Maybe not this time, or next time, but unfortunately too soon).

    8) Passenger appears to have a big unleashed camera.  (Wooden pusher prop + low over water + loose objects and abrupt flight maneuvers =  ....

    9)  Tall poles in the water as well --  do they also have some type of wire / line / net ?

    10)  I really don't see what his plan B is.   Therefore, anything doesn't go exactly right (and who's reached our age without having unexpected things constantly go wrong), he's going to likely kill AT LEAST two people, blacken the eye of our sport, make several mothers sad, etc, etc, etc.

There's something about adding a camera to "adventure sports."    If he were alone, not trying to impress crowds, or his peer in the backseat,  and didn't have a YouTube camera on, would he really be this far outside the limits of safety??!!   When a camera is added, many people do stuff they really shouldn't, just to get "the shot."

I'd like to help him with an injection of wisdom, but he's likely too young, and not seen enough tragedy and so will be immune to that.  Comments on his video warning him might make him say "You're all haters, jealous, fraidycats, etc."    I don't know, maybe we should all thumbs down his video?-- Leaving him to think about why it's getting unpopular ratings- conversely to what he thought it would attract by being "exciting?" Or, maybe that wouldn't help either?

On average, this kind of stuff will eventually end badly--   We'd like to reach out to him and keep him among the living pilots who lead by good example, but how ...  ?

Well xc not sure but you do some pretty advanced piloting .i ve flown with you 2 years in a row now.at elk river ive seen you flying pretty hot. But ive also noticed you didnt put it up on videos that inexsperienced wannabe top dog imulators can end up dying for.plus i know you keep a good plan b. Weve all made mistakes in the past at which we acept the error and are the better pilot for it.i simply dont think we should excuse videos with risky flying and not say or question it because its someone looked up to in the trike world.i dont know larry he probably wouldnt like me .thats ok plenty dont. I just think that dealers manufacturers have the resposability to not promote trikes in this fashion .also we as pilots should not oogal and ahh videos that promote the daredevil mentality.(my view) i respect say jeff trike who has an incredible website promoting the beauty of flight.i also respect you xc who yes takes some chances but also is very meticulas,? In flight planning.ive seen you xc do some pretty incredible manuvers but not on video for example . Why ( because you have a concionce of resposability). Geo tom incredible pilots.i quite hang gliding not because i felt unsafe .because i got tired of being the one who always warned and spoke out countrary to popular shunning.keeped a pretty good record of predicting death.watching alot of people die can and will ruin you desire of the sport.if it happens for me in triking ill be an icognito flyer

Thanks for calling me on that White Eagle--  you wouldn't be a friend if you blew sunshine ...

I see you doing the same favor for others out of caring for them, not out of a desire to pick on them.

Warning and remembering how the little things get you is VERY important-  Lifesaving.     Someone recently experienced a fire when fueling their trike from a Jerry Can.  Was it static electricity like we always hear about ... but may be getting lazy in remembering to prevent?   If anyone knows the story, please post the pics and warn of the story so we can have that re-tattooed onto our brains as to what we're supposed to be doing when fueling!!!    Yeah, bad things are relatively rare, but they happen and we HAVE to be Reminded and stay aware of them always!!

Try to lead by example.  No one's perfect, but we can try ...     saving someone's life (even if it's your own, or your wife / passenger, or an innocent bystander waving on the beach) is definitely worth it.

Good noble comments XC & White Eagle.

I am a relative new low hours pilot.  I am fortunate (or unfortunate) to be in the position of being old enough to have developed a bit of wisdom and have a clear appreciation of the perils (and excitement) of this sport.  Outside of that age related wisdom I also had great mentoring from my CFI throughout the training process which engendered a clear understanding of the limitations of my experience and hence the temptation to push the envelope.

I have my licence and I am slowly developing my confidence and experience in more demanding weather and situations.Getting the licence is the beginning and within a couple of years I hope to be a half way competent pilot.  I also want to be a living pilot.

Unfortunately XC I think you are right.  This young pilot my need a scare to jolt him enough to avoid dangerous situations.  Hopefully he will survive that episode.

Thank you so much xc maybe iam in a fowl mood today.note my earlier post on work.i really wish i could go fly.
But yesterday i worked from 7:30a thru 10:00 p and5:30athru8pmdoing my damdest to get coverage for sick clients and making sure they had proper care. A hugh effort with mountains of gov paperwork.only to recieve a report that the husband (snotty little iam better than you greased back hair and gold watch) of the client made a complaint that i smelled like i havnt had a bath in weeks.could have cost me my job.truth is he just wanted someone to put down to show how big he was.i took bath brushed teeth put on deoderaunt new cloths sprayed with ol spice just before.hows this relate to flyin ok...............qote me anytime you think youre above others you are a danger to youreself and exspesially others. Reward someone who is correct with humility and you will be humbled. Its called Advanced pilot syndrome........thank you xc and i needed those kind words...................
Just felt like speaking my mind
