Cool Video. How long is the pole you are using .. and does it telescope like an antenna? I recently tried some filming using one that @XCTriker made up, and I found it a bit difficult to manage in flight. It was about 3 ft long and had considerable drag hanging out the side, and nowhere to stow once I brought it back into the cockpit. I think a variable length one could be a great idea though.
I like it ! Besides being artistic, some of those camera angles are good for inspecting how things look in flight- like is the rock net flapping all over the place (no).... @Knussear, I think his beam is shorter and he held it straight forward on take off and landing (less drag) & used the control bar for a bit of support. You could choke up on the one I made. But, I think it's probably best deployed by a (willing) passenger-- our wives weren't to thrilled about giving it a try. The first and only time Janet tried it was HERE very high over Yosemite in the cold winter air of the Sierras (except for the poor quality of the upload) I think it worked out pretty well).
... but Nice Vid Jannadem! YouTube showed you had several more, including a four part series around Kamloops !
I used telescopic Xshot (XSHOT.com), which is 6.5" to 30" long sold in camera stores for about $25. It is OK to use with GoPro cameras, because they are light. I used it only few times in flight, but it is dangerous. If you loose some item, then it would go through prop, which is not very good prospect
I use different method in all my latest videos. I have two clamps on the control bar, one on each side. I just frequently rotate camera, which runs continually, to change camera views. I then edit out the camera manipulations and the boring stuff. I have two GoPro style cameras, but they are of two different formats. I like 4:3 because it is safe to capture everything without worry that you cut the head off. The other camera has only 16:9 format, but it has monitor so it is easy to aim. I use brackets on left or the right side which depends on the sun position to eliminate lens against sun.
I wish somebody could take care of videotaping, but it is illegal to take a passenger unless he/she is pilot too. I fly from the airport so I have to be on the dot.
