Madmik wildhorse island was named for the horses that the indians that live there .they would swim there horses over to the island for the winter to protect them from being stolen.my kids use to swim across there to the island really use to worry me. Flat head lake is very very deep and 6 ft waves come up very suddenly.many people drown there every year! The fishing is exelent lake trout or makinaw from 10 to 50lbs are not uncommon. My friend nathan flys his trike off the runway on the southern edge of flathead.its very nice and not to far from glacier.
Well if you were there and saw "Wild Ass Island" pop up unexpected you'd have it stuck in your head permanently- where's the retina scrub when I need it?

(I could post the picture, but a grown man mooning the rest of the trikers @ Glacier from some ruins on "Wild Ass" island is not fully family safe :)
