On a sad note, isn't your tower set to close with the sequester (fiscal cliff)? How do you feel about that?
Also, lot's of people talking about this $100 / flight charge (though piston aircraft would (initially at least) be excluded). I can't see that happening. Since I'm at a towered airport, if they charged me $100 just to circle the pattern, or even fly to Oceano and back-- I would have to give up my hangar there and leave the airport or stop flying!!! No question about that. I just don't see that happening. Total BS.
Thanks XC... Yes, unfortunately Felts Field is on the list of towers to close. It's too bad to see the FAA closing these valuable control tower services. It is really hard to imagine that these closures will not significantly increase the potential for mishaps. Just the other day I was flying into nearby COE which does not have a control tower. The winds favored runway 24 (270@4 kts) so I entered the pattern and was turning final for 24 when I heard a broken and barely audible transmission from an aircraft on 3 mile final to the opposite runway 06. Well, I transitioned to final on runway 20 and could see after my touch and go that I would have been flying directly into the path of the aircraft on the opposite runway (which they entered in a non-standard straight-in) had I not heard the radio call. Just one example of a long list of potential conflicts that will surely increase as a result of this brilliant move. Makes you wonder how serious the FAA really is about their stated high priority for GA safety ! A law suit has been filed to keep Felts Tower open but it looks like the FAA is digging in their heals. Hi geo really nice photo looks like you're wing is illuminous. Wow felts field a famous airport too.the dissolved office will remain iam sure.how many times I drove around lost for hours under you wing there from above it looks easy.my new trike is on its way and will be here next week I can hardly wait.
Wow, $100 is a small flying killer. Its bad way, but it is incerasingly. In our country is landing fees too, but there are about plane weight. Im not sure (because I usually fly free) but for trike and UL planes it is €5.
