My trike CFI takes my helicopter CFI niece on a Tanarg to fly circles around my little ultralight Pixel.

Hi Heather. Loved the video, can you tell me what airfield is your home field, and where it is? I've just been watching YFT and Hedgeview prectising some VERY tight, low-level formation  work against a beautiful sky. They both have Tanargs with Bionix 13 wings. As an "ice-cream licker" my view of their disciplines tonight was really great...but they didn't have cameras attached, and I didn't have one either.

    Thanks everybody!

Anne - I'm out of the Petaluma, CA airport (O69). We flew to Tomales Bay with Pt. Reyes in the distance. Where are you? Australia is my guess based on your slang :) I hope you pick out a flavor soon! Too bad you all didn't have cameras - the flying sounds amazing. Formation isn't happening with a Pixel & Tanarg - my job was to fly straight and level while Michael flew around me. That's something I'd only do with somebody I trust a whole lot.

Hi Heather, Yes I live in Yarrawonga Australia. It is on the Murray River, which forms the border between Victoria (our side), and New South Wales (NSW). My husband is YFT, and Hedgeview is an instructor. I love flying with YFT, but I am not a pilot, although I have flown many hundreds of hours with him. I watched him develop the program to teach formation flying, and it took months. You are right , TRUST is very big, as is disciplined flying. I've been up there with them when they are "doing their thing" but I prefer to watch from the ground, where my part is to debrief from the point of view of the spectator "icecream licker"... When they first started to fly formation together, Hedgeview was very pleased when he could "hold station" about 100 feet apert,...now his nickname is "Mr Velcro" because they can safely and accurately fly so close together. At first they flew with dissimilar aircraft, but now they both have the same combination of base, engine and wing, it works much easier and, hence, better.

Anne, wow, that formation flying sounds awesome (in the true meaning of the word). I think I'll get a few more hours under my belt before I try it though,,, I like Mr. Velcro's nickname.
