my first flight of the day at elk river waiting for xc and george to fly in 2013
well it looks pretty low over the trees but actually i was well above them but i decided with slower climb and density altitude to do a diagnal downwind leg while at elk river.worked out well for the next 6 flights.what a fun time we all had.

it was so cool to look behind me and see geoblaze coming in fast underneath me. xc,s trike with his new landing lights was just beautiful to watch at sunset.tom tabbs was talking to some curious tourist came around the corner and said you were kinda low wernt you. i said uh uh well yah i guess i was .then after thought holy cow t tabbs said i was low dam.? you know if youre first pattern is not right for a location think it out and find a safer one. elk river presents a few obsticals and its different for each type of trike. in my red back their the year before i found that a long climbing box pattern worked good for engine out safetey. but in my soaring trike with a slower climb a diaganal across the midfield gave me the best option for e/0 and keeping out of the trees while climbing. with the narrow gap and slower flying speeds of my red back it made more sense to climb high over the tree gap when taking off and over the top and land a little longer to stay out of the resident rotors. tom geo xc with higher horsepower it was fun just watching them blast through that section. i might add that that that is xc triker with the pretty lite up tanarg, [happy new year] ill eventually figure out how to shorten my vids this is the best memory i have of 2013 with some really great friends.

Fun memories !!! Sonya, you're so patient in videoing these scenes and adding your comments of who's flying what. Interesting perspective from the ground. I was surprised to see how much bird activity is visible in this video, you'd think we would have had some near misses but I don't really recall seeing many birds there. Thanks for sharing this video.
