This one belongs to the FAA (FlaBob Aviation Associates), it has quite a history. Built in US 1943, trans...orted to Canada, where several companies used it. 1973- Found derelict on ramp....
I found “Royal Arch”, 175ft high with a span of 80 ft, ample clearance for a trike. On the other side of the ridge was a mini Monument Valley. It was too windy to explore today, but I plan to return and check it out in the future.
Got up early yesterday for some flying.
We just did a little shake down fligh...re my trike survived the 1000 mile trip up here and was ready to go. Also check out the beautiful surrounding...
Going places in a trike is Cool !! I think Ken has the bug now. I was only able to check 3 more airports off my list, but they were cool ones, especially Big Bear-- had been wanting to do that and needed good conditions-- and FlaBob, home of EAA Chapter #1 very cool.
We flew out to the edge of Rio Grande Reservoir and circled, waiting for Chris to join us.
Chris had never explored this area before and I was eager to check it out again. Our formation of trikes turned to fly up to Weminuche Pass.
The winds were strong out of the Northwest. We had thought about flying up...nbsp; I had heard about an arch back here and wanted to take the opportunity to check it out.
I was flying up the Rio Puerco basin and I saw this "window" cut into a wall of rock. The opening is 42 ft across, see the shadow of my trike to check the size. It would be a tight fit. I flew over the window.
After leaving Mexican Mountain Airstrip, we headed for the Mineral Canyon Airstrip to check our our wings, then fly upstream along the Green River with the sun at our back. Here I am crossing over the edge and diving down into Mineral Canyon
