Flew over ultralights

Hey we saw those guys camped with the Cessna by the wind sock in the middle of the dry lake.  They waved enthusiastically as we flew over.  What are they doing there?

If we'd seen trikes we would've landed.  We weren't sure exactly where the Flying-J was, but Jim spotted a trike so we locked in on him and followed him right to the Flying-J.

They are friends of Jim R (owner of Flying J ranch).   The ranch was established around year 2000.  So Jim R knew many pilots.

Sometimes the pilots practice airplane landing, even sailplane landings.  Sailplane was towed by a vehicle, then lands.   Gyrocopter goes to dry lake also.   PPG (power paragliding).

After you left, 3 ultralight planes (Quicksilver and 2 Kolbs) landed at the ranch.  There is an ul airport called Brian Ranch airport and sailplane airport as Crystal airport.   The pilots often fly over the dry lake and social at the Flying J ranch.

Thanks Sally,   Is Jim R.  "Recumbent Jim"?

    Hi,

Jim Robison.   Other one is Jim Heaton with bright blue eyes (40 years hanggliding veteran).  Jim still fly hangglider once in while.

All of us are retired hang gliders except Gene.  Gene still fly both trike and hang glider.

Jim R used to be a BFI, now no longer BFI (CFI).    Chad is the only one who is a CFI.
