I enjoyed the historic photos. Can you tell me where this training took place?. From the pics it looks like there is plenty of red australian outback dirt.
All our initial training was done at Lightning Ridge where we lived for a decade or so. The nearest trike instructor was Chris Brandon in the Hunter Valley which was way too for us to go to. Instead we brought Chris to the Ridge for a couple of weeks, put him up in an old converted school bus and the "Ridge Trike Squad" was formed. We also went to Copeton Dam for extra training over a weekend. There was a great little airstrip right alongside the dam itself with camping literally on the edge of the Runway.
The red dirt (and mud) you saw was from one of our "Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari's" where we took the trike along with us. I think that trip started at the Ridge, on to Bourke, Tibooburra, Innamincka, the Flinders Ranges and return. Not a lot of flying was done at that trip. Extreme thermals. Inexperienced pilots. Rain. Mud. Broken trailer and vehicle. Last flight was nearly at Betoota in outback Queensland. You can ask Roy about that particular occasion! Lets just say that we really appreciated the services of the Royal Flying Doctor Service that day.....

Hello WeFly/Toucans,

It all looked like a lot of fun.
