Brand new float trike down in Havasu

    Cygnet

How does it compare with Ramphos and Cygnet?

  • Bill Pilgrim

The Ramphos is a single hull like a little boat, the Krucker Cygnet is on two pontoons. Performance and handling wise I can't comment

  • Jozinko

I flew on boat FIB trike in Croatia and on floats trike in Ukraine. Performance and handling seemed to me by floats better. The boat trike have a great boats resistance on water and on air too.

I've done quite a bit of research over the past year and pretty much settled on a Cygnet 3 912s. Michael @AirtimeAircraft indicated that Joe's is the 'most equipped' Cygnet manufactured to date. There are over 100 photos of this Cygnet in the gallery on his website. Pretty nice!

Many trike pilots say these 'fly like a truck', and float less trikes fly like a sports car. But actual owners indicate 'that feel' is just weight. They're heavier and in flight that weight is evident. But maybe a better analogy is a jeep. Not so hot on a curvy mountain road, but it'll go places safely a float less can't go. I live in Minnesota where 98% of flight is low & slow over water. Not wise on a float less trike. It's all about what you use them for. Slow for cross country (55mph) and low winds are preferred (especially for gear down landings at an airport), but unmatched for lake hopping and river running! They land on water much more stable than single hull floaters. I love Joe's twin cooler chests!
