Thought some of you might enjoy this… Some beautiful engineering and innovation.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

    Those are awesome

I like that it has flaps and ailerons instead of drag tip rudders.  Looks like it has good static balance too.

Indeed. Pretty unique design. Seems sturdy too. It's the only mix of fixed wing and hang gliding that I've seen. Looks like a blast.

Well that Arheaopteryx is very slick.  They apparently also have one now with electric motor.  But at 75,300 Swiss francs for the basic version it is pretty much out of reach for most folks.  Would like to see one up close.

It is a well designed, nice piece of engineering, but not for me.  You are flying inside a can.  I prefer my trike.

I couldn't agree more jeff. Just something I stumbled upon and found interesting from a technological/engineering stand point. Definitely not my cup of tea either. Plus as UL noted it's a rich boy toy at best.

very nice machine   i liked that it was foot launch-able and land able. but i have to agree that i like the openness of my trike and the more birdlike flight of my soaring trike.if i was endowed with a bunch of moola i would just have the top of the line soaring trike.save the rest of the moola flying and exploring the more pristine places in the world.even hang gliding with all the beautiful flying i would still prefer my soaring trike. we forget about all the times we spent waiting for relative wind or a driver or packing it up some steep slope.the ability and affordability of soaring trikes and the xc potential of elsa trikes is just plain awesome way for all who desire to fly.  and we should keep it that way?

Ace, thanks for sharing the link on the Arch.  Here is another that is a mix of fixed wing and HG.  It is called the Millenium.  Although there are a number of videos out there I'll just post a couple links.  I was extremely intrigued when I was out at Highland Aerosports doing aerotows a few years back and I ran into a pilot with a Millenium.  I chatted with him for some time about his machine and its capabilities.  I was impressed.  He was there doing aerotows too.  Of course, I also have a friend that almost lost his life in a Millenium when the bridle to his chute snapped after deployment.  My recollection (but I might be wrong) is that an overlooked step in assembly prevented him from flying at slow speeds requiring chute deployment.  I may have the story mixed up but I think a company out west made these for a short time and only a limited number were made so they may not be easy to find.  In any case, is not flying in a can as it is a nice open cockpit although I think some have used some nice fairings to partially enclose.  This video1 and video2 will give you an idea of what a Milleninum is like.

Some food for thought.  I once encountered this quote which got me to thinking .....  .....maybe there is some truth to this perspective.

"Life's goal is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body.
But rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out and broken, shouting
"Holy Crap, WHAT A RIDE !!"
