  • Chocolate Falls on the Little Colorado River

    We found the cliff where "Chocolate Falls" forms in the spring.  No mud today, just some clear water dribbling over the edge.  It looked like oasis in the middle of nowhere.

    We headed due east along the northern edge of Canyonlands National Park to the Colorado River side.  This fin of rock is below Dead Horse Point State Park and just outside of Canyonlands National Park.  It's near the "Caveman Airstrip", if you know where that is.

  • Crossing over to Saguache

    We left Gunnison and had to climb to high to cross the mountains to reach Saguache and the San Luis Valley.  If was very cold, about 30F ambient temperature.   Our goal was the heated pool at Hooper, Colorado.  We just hoped it would be open when we landed so we could warm up.

  • Lily Lake

    Lily Lake, a small lake ringed with lily pads, near Marble, Colorado.

  • Corona Arch

    After leaving the Green River, we crossed over to the Colorado River on the opposite side of Canyonlands and headed upstream.   I found Corona Arch, made famous by a Tim Martin, a Utah Backcountry pilot who flew through this arch many a time.

  • Black Canyon of the Gunnison River

    We followed the Colorado River past Grand Junction, the followed the Gunnision to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River
