Score another one for Trike Kind !!!  So the next time some knucklehead asks ... "Can your little trike do that?"  You can tell 'em, Oh yeah buddy, that and more !!!     How 'bout @Olivier and his flight from the tip of South America to the Tip of South Africa?   Or @CraigV and his landing in all 48 continental United States in 33 days?  or YFT (@Yarraft) and his precision formation teams.  etc, etc.  We're all ambassadors for a great sport.

So there I was reading "Recipes for Disaster" by Ole ( @WingedGringo ) and I noticed the cover photo... and the caption that reads "Headed for Mt Whitney, highest point in the 48 states" is it possible that Ole scored the victory for trike kind first?

There's guys out there doing / have done incredible stuff.  Ole probably did, he lived out at Lone Pine for a long time. With 2 up in a 2-stroke though?  Hm, 2-stroke does have better power to weight but ultimately less power overall. Which is interesting because the 100HP has even less power to weight than the 80Hp 912-- I think, someone have the stats?  The injected "100hp" is only like 94 and I bet weighs more still.

Hm, things that make you go hm ...    I took out / off as much extra weight as I could and limited the amount of fuel I took along as well- all for power to weight.  I did have an ~7lb O2 system though and ultimately got to 17,200' (Whitney itself is 14,500).  I don't think Ole flies with O2, so more weight saving for him :)--  but maybe he did, my system I borrowed from a HG buddy...

Ole would certainly know how to use the lift of the Sierras, and his trike would be better suited to soaring. Though I've thermalled my Tanarg B15 :) (and everyone on this site freaked out when I did).  I did use some ridge lift to get over Whitney quicker, but it was near dawn when we went-- there were no thermals.

Repitching the prop for the Sierras would've helped too.  Ole may have, since he lived out there, and I think he uses the Ivoprop which are very easy to repitch.  Bulletproof too (literally) ... So then why did one of Ole's props disintegrate on "Sea Foam" ... ?   Different story ....

I thought in Ole's story "Hammer Bound for Hell" he/Walter ultimately didn't make it over Whitney (at least not that day) due to an inadvertent "missile" he noticed hanging off his side wires ;).

All great stories and we gotta get Ole to tell his!!  BTW if any of you havent read Ole's thrilling thrillology of books you guys are missing out on some hillarious and just generally great reads!  I think they're in the "Market Place" here.

Which reminds me, I was going to post some pics flying way down south in another time to a forbidden & sacred island city, way back when with Ole ... Who graciously loaned me his trike BTW something most US instructors won't do.
