I balanced the wheels for smooth take off. I used the motorcycle wheel balancer from Harbor Freight Tools. It works great. No more break on take off !!
white eagle, when you put the wheel on the rod, it starts rotating and heavier side goes down. When wheel stops rotating, the bottom section is the heaviest. Put the weight on the top side (180 degree from the heaviest side) of the wheel. Try and error to find out how many weights are needed to stop the wheel rotation. When the wheel is properly balanced, the wheel does not rotate, no matter what position wheel is moved. I took only about 5 minutes to balance per wheel.
understand pretty cool henry looks like a great balancer for trike wheels. ive been trying to go flying but the wx has been incredably wrong lately. i look at the exstended forcast that i can fly on my days off . looks great up untill that day and then poof it snows. so the next day off it looks like snow on the exstended forcast and so i dont plan on flying oversleep and poof the weather was nice enough to fly. has anyone noticed how wierd the weather has been.
Thanks Henry, what kind of motion did you notice to get you to do this? I have those wheels, brakes and bearings as well. Never much noticed any irregularity. So It never occurred to me to check the balance on them. I'm waiting on replacement new piston O- rings for the calipers, in the mail. . Since I'll have the wheels off for the maintence, I may try this.
Normally, you will feel vibration right after your trike takes off. Often times, it is pretty bad. You have to stop the wheel rotation by applying the break.

Cool idea Henry!
Pretty good idea henry. Ive never liked harbor frieght much but looks like this should work. So how do you add counter balance?
