    Nice inspiration. Thanks! :)

Excellent job. I'd like to see some more detail on this such as how the unit was fixed into the main tube.

Was this a purchased telescopic pole or the leg from a tripod?

Looking forward to seeing some video results... :-)

Hi Craig, Leo Lezzi machined the mount from hard plastic for me. He did the great job !! It incerts about 5" into the main keel. We used one tap screw through the main keel from the bottom. The extentable lot we used is one of selfie pole. I got it less than $20 from Amazon.

Thank you guys for the kind words. A few things to keep in mind for anyone wanting to create a mount of this type...

    1. Not all Keel Diameters are the same plus Quality control cannot keep them in the +-.010 range due to the fact that the Leading Tube Hinge bracket is attached to the Keel with a bolt that squeezes the tube out-of-round.

    2. Because of that, Chris's original idea was a very simplified version compared to the one I designed. His P&M wing uses a single, very thick walled Keel, while the Northwing uses 4 tubes inside each other, and has an off-set (like a counter bore) within the first inch or so. This allowed Chris to purchase an off-the-shelf 2" diameter piece of Delrin that needed no diameter machining what so ever other than the slot to clear the bolts mentioned above. Just so happen, the 2" round stock fit like a glove for his wing.

    3. The reason all of that is important is because for video purposes, obviously it needs to be a solid platform without movement. In short, custom machining is almost guaranteed for a proper fit unless your keel happens to fall into Chris's situation.

    4. The Delrin mount is fastened as Henry stated by a screw at the bottom of the Keel. Care must be taken to make that a clean hole and not propagate cracking. It also can serve as the attachment point of the safety pins lanyard keeper much in the way I had planned it. Optional, but recommended.

    5. Lastly, after talking with Larry Mednick, his only concern is that cutting a hole on the nose cone can create a situation where air could potentially enter the wing. That can be extremely dangerous especially to double surface wings. For that reason, Henry cut his own, and he did a fantastic job, not only keeping the diameter tight around the mount, but also using a special tape to keep the edges of the cut clean and protected.

If you guys need details, I’m more than willing to share them with you. Just ask and I can post some additional pictures/drawings of my design.

Great work guys a real professional looking finish. Leo, I understand what you are saying about the hole in the nose cone or "nappy", I have seen versions here that then have a very soft neoprene type round disc that slides down over the pole and slides right down to where the pole penetrates the nappy. The idea being that this is soft enough and a tight enough fit to create an excellent seal at this point.

This is definately something that I will look at.

    Thank you Craig!

The idea of slipping an O-ring type deal is an excellent way of controlling that!
