I didn't know when I talked to Dave so I will let you know.  Many are not using radios but the ones who are using radios are supposed to be on 123.025.  Some may be using 123.45.

Today the wind was out of the west so I would announce taking off on runway 27.  When inbound to land I would announce left downwind, left base and final.

Most gyroplane pilots are not as formal as I am.  If you arrive in mass and depart in mass a little formality may be a good thing.

Be aware that the winds can shift as much as thirty degrees during the take off roll.  I was caught by this on my first take off and my third landing today.

I find it difficult to judge my height above the lakebed.  It is easy to flair too high.

I watched a gyroplane pilot have problems with both these things today, he flared too high and was not pointed into the wind. I felt it was an inelegant landing.

Look forward to seeing you there, Thank you, Vance

Vic's attorney doesn't want anyone to land at the Arrowhead due to liability.   He has a client this Saturday to view the property.

Thanks @Vance, that's right, I think I remember now getting kinda "snow blinded" by the FLAT light reflective surface of the lake and misjudging my flare in a Hang Glider years ago.

It was fun seeing all the trikes flying around the lake and I personally had very little traffic conflict.

All the landings I saw except for one were elegant.

Everyone I saw was flying very predictably unlike some of the gyroplanes that were dog fighting, myself included.  Fourteen clean tail shots with only slight battle damage from the side.

At the pilots briefing the CTAF was changed to 123.45 because the older pilots had trouble remembering 123.025.

Dave stopped by twice and Janet once but we did not get to visit because I was busy hopping rides and playing mother goose with our gaggle to Sothern California Logistics (VCV).  Some of the seven didn’t have a radio and only a couple had a transponder so I became mother goose of our flight of seven.

We were well treated at Million Air even though none of the flight of seven bought fuel.

The tower was particularly accommodating allowing us to come in at 500 feet AGL and land on the closest runway.

Because I have a low fear threshold and my preflight briefing we were very spread out on departure and at four miles for VCV I heard;  “Experimental 142 Mike Golf flight of seven, your tail end Charlie is up and away!”  It was actually our tail end Britta flying a 235 pound student under instruction in her 912 powered Air Command.  The 4,900 foot density altitude and slight tail wind caused her to use much of the two mile runway.

I hope to meet more of you when you come next year.  There is no charge for landing on the lake, only for vehicles.

I heard nothing but positive about the trikes and the trike pilots.

I am not set up to post pictures so I will email one to Dave and perhaps he will post it.

    Thank you, Vance

Thanks @Vance, I only saw you in the air, but it was truly a magnificent event. The diversity of machines was particularly interesting. I'm downloading cameras and will be posting some over the next day or so.

That's a great report @Vance!  Fun stuff.   (This "Event" page doesn't have the capacity for pictures really we've started some photo albums we'll be adding to.   Or you could start a photo album in THIS GROUP then we could add to yours as mother goose!)
