Hokey smokes Bullwinkle, check this out!

They were very lucky. If the wing splits to the leading edge, the wing can't fly anymore. Many new wings have additional reinforcement of carbon or Kevlar belt on the tailing of their wing.

Whoa daddy! Way worse than engine out...any idea on the age of the wing? How many hours of UV exposure? Maybe just a weak point in the thread or fabric?

  • Rick D

Which brings up a point I have been wondering about for some time. We have all heard and seen some of the tragic trike accidents that have happened over time. But we never hear about the root cause of those accidents. Just like in GA, lessons are learned after the NTSB investigations that lead to better safety standards. If we knew what the causes were, whether hardware failure or pilot error, we would all be safer in the air.

There are a bunch of comments on the youtube post. I think 700 ish hours, lots of UV time, it passed Betsometer, but failed thumb?? not sure if thats the right order or not.

Sure makes you want to have a close look during your pre-flight and annual inspections doesn't it!

He pulled off a great landing all things considered.

Thanks Ken. Went to YouTube and one comment the pilot makes is very scary... "I removed a piece of sail afterwards for testing... and it ripped easily by hand in both directions." Whoa! Good thing the wing didn't continue to shred! I agree Leo, he got 'er back down safely, a great job!

This is one of reasons why i dont like Apollo wings. But he did a great landing with it.
