More than 25 seconds after a departing Blackhawk Sikorsky UH-60 takes off from Runway 33 in Fort Collins, Colorado, a student pilot attempted to land a Cirrus SR20 and was tossed like a rag doll after descending through the massive rotor downwash!
I got into a bit of downwash from a Eurocopter recently at speed and it wasn't fun. Maybe give I'll them a few minutes longer next time

Very clearly that rotor down wash can be devastating. The calmer the winds, the longer that down wash sits and churns => more time needed to dissipate before attempting to come in behind it.

Insane. If it did that to a Cirrus, can you imagine one of our Light Sport Trikes?
Good to know Ken, thank you for sharing.

Holly cow, that's a rough lesson. I have V-22 Osprey in my flight pattern and those are nasty too.
Oh my gosh, that is scary. That poor pilot.
one thing worth noting here is look at the wash or wind direction in the dust after the crash? significantly downwind for the cirrus. looks to me he felt the wash pilled up to avoid it quickly high speed stall and sealed his fate. not sure but i think if he had added power and kept the nose level he might of avoided and recovered. any other thoughts on this?
