white eagle winter flying wild horse plains montana

well its a little long but for my first attempt at a go pro video too bad well I guess you can get some flying in the winter in montana. plains is in the banana belt and has a very nice airport with lots of trike friendly folks. while there I had multiple offers to land at ranchers private runways. and even some hanger options. very xcenic to fly and a hot springs 15 air miles to the north for a dip. hope you like it took me a few days to figure ot the movie maker stuff.

Wow WE - Cool Video! and good to hear from you. Looks like you got the soaring trike humming again? Did you get that larger prop on that you were talking about? Great to see you still flying up in that subartic landscape. You Montana guys are tough

Hey Dave, you did a great job in putting together that video.  Moody Blues all the way!  Yes, that terrain around Plains airport looks to have some very soarable hills/mountains.  Excellent job in piloting too my friend!  Now, I have that Wild Horse area on my bucket list.  Will be great once you get the flying wire adjustment on your wing and the new prop on.  Thanks for sharing.

Hey Ken, You say, Montana men are tough", I say, Balls of Steel".   I really enjoyed the video.  Thanks WE.  I have been intrigued about your home state of Montana since meeting you in Oz.  I managed to look up the airport on google earth and follow the path of your flight.  Beautiful rugged looking country.

hey ken all thanks for the comments . ken to answer your questions yes with joes help and measurements from j ebbs falcon iam still in the process of installing the longer prop.kameron has agreed kindly to make the new wires for me. i did some work with the carbs on my g25 engine so that was the reason for going to fly up in plains with that long 4650 foot runway with an old auxillery runway on the down wind leg.i wanted plenty of room in the case i didnt climb to good  like it did in polsen. the engine perfomed much much better but the climb rate is still weak for this part of the woods on a hot day.ive lost some hot dog fat should help.as joe said i think the sollution is to create more thrust swinging a larger prop givin the right pitch blocks the g25 will handle it just fine. So the plan is to either develope a better climb or ill been in the market for solairus with a polini 250. i really love the soaring trike speaks to my earlier hang gliding days     but love the elsa slsa stuff too . its nice because sonya as you know loves to fly so i can take her in my redback and when she cant i can go out chasing thermals.

by the wayside in my vidio there was a 19 bird v of canadian geese following me down the river off my left wingtip but  i thought my go pro on my helmet was getting them but i realized latter it was pointing down.they were so close to my wingtip that i could here them honking over my headset . wish i could have captured that but iam still a go pro rookie.  finally getting my delinquint land taxes paid off this week and paying off a few more obligations and ill be back in the ballgame.

noel great to hear from you   montana is just beautifull but does require a bigger saftey margine in flying. it truly amazes me how every place has its own special beauty and risks.  as far as montana nuiechies last time i looked they dried up and turned black.

Hi david glad you got a chance to fly.i am back in canada now so no flying for me untill i go back down to havsu in march.if i had my trike here i would fly it in the winter too.thanks for posting video and braving the cold

hello rick and dean   i have been quiet for a bit working two full time jobs trying to catch up on taxes   sucks?  well snow  been very very mild for snow this year about two 1 and half feet of slush melting freezing than rain and more rain   not normal at all for here 4 inches of rain the last night to today, very wierd for feb in western montana. we normally get about 15  feet of snow acumilitive here. i talked to tom a week or so ago and i think bonners  ferry is going to be a really good time. hope you guys are comming theres some really remarkable xc trips there and i think a bunch of runways heading north. if i remember corectly i think it was henery when landing with tom and geo who had to dodge a pretty big bear when landing. theres a video floating around somewhere of it. henry do you still have it maybe put it up i know ricks wifey would love to get a video of a big bear trying to catch rick while landing.
