Hang glider E-Help motor harness

Now this looks to be a very simple system. The pilot is still working on the development. Probably not a huge amount of thrust or extended time at high power but maybe a nice way to get up to supplement some natural ridge lift or thermal lift. Pretty cool.

Nice !  When I used to have a Mosquito NRG FLPHG (like @GarrettSpeeter ) I practically never shut that tiny 2-stroke off (rather kept it at idle while soaring, as I was never confident it would start right back up when I NEEDED it.)  With electric, I'd be a lot more confident it would fire up immediately.

    From his YouTube site:

it says this was Wanaka, New Zealand Oct/Nov 2013.  (I thought for a second it was Point of the Mountain UT.)

Turnigy Rotomax 150    [I guess that's the motor?]

Turnigy 250 amp sec    [I guess that's the battery?]

         Turnigy nano tech 8ah 6s x 6 - 12s3p     [individual battery cells ?  or the controller?]

         Biela 26x14 3 blade prop

This setup runs 220amps, 6000 rpm and 29kg static thrust @ full power [5 minutes till flat]

With the geared motor version nothing will change really it will still look like this one, maybe a little skinner at the motor end (foot end). It will be turning a bigger prop yes- 35" but its not too much bigger than whats on there- 26-28" plus it will fold

Hi Matt, first of all this isnt my idea or design, Ive copied and modified from AcrodesignerLNSNI. Ive made this to open up soaring sites that have no takeoff or access. It isnt designed to climb up high with....yet. At the moment the climb is about 300fpm, so at full power you will drain the batteries in about 5-6mins. Im working on a more powerful/ efficient version which might be better for climbing high or longer duration cruising.

The new version im working on gets away from direct drive and has a inline planetary gearbox with inrunner motor that can swing a bigger folding prop, which will be a lot more efficient. This version is OK but not as good as i can get it...

Hi Lei Yu, Thanks. The charger i use is a FMA Direct PowerLab 6 For high power charging i do charge outside just with an extension cord. The charger runs off 12-30vdc so has a dc power supply. The 3 blade prop is really just a personal thing more than anything, its quieter than a 2 blade and i can use a slightly smaller diameter for the same output. A 28-30" x 12-13" 2 blade will be fine, i used a 28x12 3 blade it was 240amps @ full power... but i broke it.

Its fine but at bit longer would help, but its not built for this glider im only doing the testing on it.

This is a great direction. Less bulk and complexity. Use existing harness. What is your climb rate ? How high can you get on a charge ? How long on a charge ? Will you sell these ?
