Up With Gary

Hey @Cburg , @WeFly, @Wang1 , @Flydiver what do you know about this video?
It was Uploaded to youtube on Nov 8, 2009 but the wing is much older than that-- about 4 floppy battens per side and no defined airfoil. Still ahs wheels on the control bar ala HG style-- very light set up.
I was worried about him when he strapped in in front of the control bar-- wondering if it was his first flight / training ? The registration number is British, isn't it G-MMGE?

Uploader comment was "On a wing and a prayer up he goes and he flies it too. The landing is more like a parachute drop than a flare."

    Wow, that is something.

Some "likely lads" from my home county of Yorkshire - the accents give it away!!  The big mill building in the background is pretty distinctive - I suspect somewhere near Sheffield (Steel mills) - those Southern Yorkshire lad are all crazy!!

  • Ken

That's a crazy looking wing to be sure. Closer to the old school rogallo

  • white eagle

Looks like breen microlites some pink Floyd would of fit nicely in their.
    Good bye blue skys goodbye.

Not familiar with that wing, but don't think I would personally fly it.  May be very quick to set up though.  L/D can't be all that great but he was able to get air borne.  Hey, plopping it in on landing would give some pretty good STOL performance.

was the pru wobbling ? or ? amazing cajunas, makes me proud to be (ex) limey!

  • XC Triker

@DaveSalter@MontyStone  that's so cool you could identify the country.  Brings more character to the whole video--  thanks.  This video tells a story--  I think it's of the evolution of trikes, but I was a bit puzzled that it was posted in 2009.

Yeah, plopping can work for some situations.

Not sure I understood the rest of what you said Monty ;)   ?Pru?  Cayunas (carbs) or Cajones (big Juevos-- Balls)?

hi dave, yes i lived in the uk 'midlands' for a while during 1941 after some teutonic 'supermen' in dark green airplanes dropped a bomb on the back of our house (apartment) in london. i remember the 'yorkies' and the 'lancashire' people as very warm hearted, though the kids thought a 'cockney' accent was that of a 'furriner' (and so, in our inevitable 'war games, during which, we tried to de-rail a troop train full of OUR troops, and strung wire accross roads trying to behead the odd bicycle rider (no lights at night) being a 'furriner i had to play the part of a 'kraut' sentry and ALWAYS would be' killed', usually from behind with a blunt kitchen knife wielded by a big red headed kid playing a 'commando ! i must have more experience of having my throat cut than most other 6yr old kids!!), but,of course i played that 'exoticness' to the hilt with the local 'lassies' ,but with no remembered success! though, at 6yrs of age i doubt i was equipped for 'conquest'. re pru= prop reduction unit, cayunas is a corruption of 'testes', wherin manly courage emanates, and of course ' hand plopping' is what chinese trike 'pirots' do to start their engines, now where was i ?, oh yeah,'thus endeth the loquacios comment ,'phew! monty
