Did you see the trailing edge of the wing near the root start to flutter?  Getting a bit close there to going negative.  Yes, I'd second the nomination.

Those palm tree shaped docks in the water remind me of another video series we had on here of a pilot with passenger flying low over the water. I think we have seen this guy on here before.

I believe he is one of the Qazi brothers from Pakistan. If I remember correctly they have already lost a brother in an air craft accident.

This quote might be relevant here.  “The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits”. – Albert Einstein

Guys, he was NOT looping in this video, he was just doing wing overs, you can tell by the way the ground comes around in the video each time from seeing water or the earth and seeing sky.  There were no loops done here, with a wide angle video the viewer gets fooled into thinking that is what was happening.  With a wide angle of view as he had from his wing tip camera, a loop would show the sky and earth the whole time and you would see it rotate around, always being in view, we did not see that in this video.  It was either all sky or all ground/water so trust me, not a looping video here.

Thats good to hear Lucian, he had me puckered up pretty good at 00:20 and 00:30

All I saw were some wangs and steep turns.  Not very precise.

That's what I saw as well.  He may have been over-speeding- the flutter and carriage vibration was getting intense.  There were people underneath him, his over all altitude was low, and his pull outs were abrupt and low.  He had no BRS for doing aerobatics- though no trike is certified for aerobatics.

I wouldn't say it looked good.

Usually I think water and trikes do not mix-- but in this case, if there is a good chance of crashing, I guess water is better than hard stuff, at least for a second, then you're underwater with the wind knocked out of you in a tangle of wires, aluminum and fabric going down quick ...

(again though, there were people (to impress) below him in addition to water)

The audio gave it away, it gets very quiet at 0 gee. The wrinkles in the sail are from higher loads causing the L.E. tubes to flex venting some of the added Gee loads from the poorly executed wangs.

What is funny to me is this behavior is nixed by PO but flying @ high speed very low over open water or some other type of terrain that would be a killer in an engine out is applauded as cool?

Maybe the difference is the flying low and fast pilots have more awesome trikes? Anyone remember the 912 wonder ship that went down in a river drowning the passenger a few years ago?

Pushing the limits of what you fly or how you fly it can catch even a Darwinist dead in an awesome trike. So you pay your money and take what ever chance you want, No reason to be judged or labeled we are all doing what we love how we want to do it. Medicated or not! ;)

Wang 1, we've seen worse.  The kid(s) flying through the trees, and some very ugly loops.  You know it's funny, it's not the trike that bothered me (a light trike is better suited to maneuvering), but his age and sex- automatically makes me suspicious that he's going beyond safe.  Because we've all been there and I know how much more stupid I was at that age--  I'm much less stupid now.

It's good to call this out as dumb behavior (and if he gets older (& he probably will) and/or has kids, he'll recognize it), like you say about some of the big trikes low over harsh terrain.  There's some beautiful video about deadly things and there's video of people crashing we can't take our eyes off of either  ...  what does that say about all of us?

What is "PO" (as in "...this behavior is nixed by PO ...")  and what "... 912 wonder ship that went down in a river drowning the passenger a few years ago? "  I don't recall that one-- I recall the 3? big ships that went down in Hawaiian waters 2 or 3 years ago.  Can you find the links and post on CSI ?

I try not to mind if people judge what I do, they're going to judge it anyway, might as well benefit from some of their wisdom.  I'll post some video to judge soon ...

    Hi XC triker,

When I see a crash video I watch it to learn from it not the sensationalism, or try too? We are saying the same thing. "To each, his own". Public Opinion = PO. I bet it was 8-10 yrs back on the engine out in the river NE US, There was a one 2-3 yrs back in the SE US low over the trees in a trike.

I doubt if I am any less stupid now, maybe worse? more experienced? yes, but the age thing offsets that.  We never know how many good flying seasons we have ahead of us, so I am shooting to make each one the best in case it is my last. Kind of a good way to live each day too me.

After looking at video again, I would agree these are not full inverted loops but wangs.  The youtube channel description is "This is 75(degrees) loops and I hope next time I can be 90(degrees) so all trike pilot give me a good wishes about that,".  It was clear to me that he had an audience on the beach and in the water that I suspect he was trying to entertain.  In the quote I posted earlier I indicated "might be relevant" here so I was not labeling this pilot as "stupid".  I normally try to be careful in my criticisms of pilots or their behavior.  He does seem to be interested in pushing the looping a bit further as evidenced by his comments above.  Having said that, we all have more or less defined boundaries to what I like to call our "comfort zone".  I also believe it is instructive for us to periodically test those boundaries what ever they are.  In doing so we might choose to expand or contract those boundaries.  When a pilot appears to be continually expanding his CZ boundary that can be both good and bad.  The good part might be related to better skills and expertise to deal with previously uncomfortable situations.  The bad part might be related to going beyond normally considered safe flying envelope for a particular machine or in exercising poorer judgement/decision making on what can/should be attempted.  Hey I certainly have done my share of wing overs and some of them a bit closer to the ground than I probably should admit.  I try not to do them at very low altitude any more.  What I do think is important is that to the extent possible, we try to maintain a mindset that is receptive to constructive criticism especially when it is in the name of safety.

Gave it a title change to reflect the discussion a bit more. Thanks for the commentary all.

  • XC Triker

Great discussion guys.  If this guy is looking for encouragement to go over the top, I would highly discourage him personally--  the risk : benefit is just just way off  (not to mention his 75° wangs are not clean).

Problem to me is when he kills some tourist.  It bugs me we can't fly tourists off a quiet beach or golf course for a few bucks. The loophole of introductory instruction is silly.  These guys don't help.
