Some low level flying in a North Wing ATF and practicing a couple engine off landings

A few weeks back Ken reposted a thread I started on "Dead Stick Monday". Was sorting through some of my old video and I found some examples (from a different video perspective) of doing a few engine off landings in my NW ATF soaring trike. I am just learning about the video editing process which I find to be quite time consuming. In any case here it is. You might consider watching it in HD and turning up the volume. :)

Nice video! Your editing is fine and we can to see your experience in practice. I teaching my students to estimate where they can to land if the engine will stop just now. Where far they can to fly, what place to landing they will chose, from where side is wind blowing. The emergency landing trainings are about 30% from all landings in my school.

Looks like she handles nice!. What do you have in the pouch?

Hey ul looks like youre getting a good rate of climb .what engine are you using mz34 what hp ? Kameron makes great soaring birds. Iam getting rid of my z- g25 engine and puttig a kaw -440 engine in my sky cycle.anyways good to see a soaring trike video. With hip hop and rap hendrix just makes so much more sense. All though ( there must be some way outta here said the joker to the thief) would of worked better for audio.?

Thanks for your comments Jozinko, Ken and W.E.

Jozinko, glad to hear you include a lot of emergency landing training at your school.  Very important for students to develop experience and confidence on this.  Early on I used to practice around 70% of my landings engine off.  Kind of a no brainer for me since I came from a HG background.

Ken, she handles very nice and is fun to fly.  I keep a few items like cell phone, water bottle, flash light, some tools, etc in my butt pack.  No that is not a chute pack.  It was not until a couple years after that video that I bought a BRS softpack for that trike.

W.E. That is the Simonini Mini 2 plus engine rated at 26hp.  Yes, I could usually count on 500 to 600fpm climb rate at 500msl but then again I am 160 lbs and trike was very light so total wing loading was on the light side.  From what I have heard Kaw 440 owners are quite pleased with that engine so I suspect you will be happy with it.  Will be a big improvement in thrust which might be what your after.  Although I have not posted many videos yet, I do have a lot of inflight video which I have accumulated over the years.  Since music is a big part of my life, I will always plan to include a sampling of some of my favorite music.  Yes, Jimi Hendrix is one of my favorite guitar players.  Just think what he may have accomplished musically had he lived past the tender age of 27!

Love the video and music!  Very jealous about your trike--  that's sweet flying.  Making practice fun at sunset.  Jimi kicks a$$, I play lots of Jimi on long flights--  Right Coy, all along the watch tower woulda been a great one too, and dragonfly !!!

Hey, you know what Bob Dillon said when he heard Jimi do all along the watch tower, "I knew there was a reason I wrote that song!!"  Now from one master to another, THAT is a real tribute!

Thanks XC. Glad to hear you like Hendrix too.  I sold that ATF this past spring and at times I do miss it.  So much fun to fly.
