A late afternoon flight. I thought I would go and check out the burn-off generating all the pollutive smoke on Big Woody Island in the Great Sandy Straits.

I guess it's important to mention that no one lives here and this Island is a National Park.

Hey cb great video. Like always i really liked the radio com in there.and agree with ken you have a great little setup there. Man id be afraid of ditching in those waters you have box jellyfish there.two things that really scare me things that eat you in 2 bites like great white sharks and box jellyfish.

I like the audio too CB.  Wait no one lives on the island.  So they want to reduce the chance of fires, by setting annual big smoky fires !!??  It's amazing the island didn't explode on it's own in the thousands of years before man so brilliantly managed it!!  ;)    I'm missing something ;)

I just had to go there virtually:  SkyVector  ,    Google Satellite

Hey,that area down near MoonBoom Island looks cool to fly over, I can see why they call the area the great sandy straights!

Do you carry a life vest / flotation?

Xc, i dont understand the reasoning behind burning off an uninhibited island either, except maybe to allow the native plants to reproduce and seeds to germinate.  Some of them require fire, such as the native banksia trees. As far as i know there are no significant animals on the island, except maybe a few snakes and lizards.

All i know is that evening, half of the city and population here was affected by a heavy blanket of smoke.

As for floatation, no.  We normally fly high enough and near the islands to make an emergency landing on the dry stuff.
