PTT on Vertical Grip

Thanks for the idea Kim (@flyingleap)

A christmas or two back, Ken made me some cool vertical grips for the basetube (see back arrow one photo in this album).  They are nice to give you a different grip on the bar, or different leverage in certain conditions (kinda like many people use the D-Bras (training bars) occasionally for the same reason.

Out at Havasu a few weeks ago, I saw that Kim had monned his PTT on the vertical-- that was cool!  I did the same.  Keeps the PTT off the basetube so I can work the whole basetube without activating the PTT / have it get int eh way.  Also, when I tie the bastetube to the front tube, if the basetube slides it doesn't start impacting my PTT on the basetube.  I really dig this PTT position!!!

Hey David, my father made as same as yours, 15 years ago. I must to find a photos from it :) Next he made a speed bar with a comfortable "bubles" for his hands. Great!!!

Hi Jozinko, thanks.  I'd like to see the "bubble" grips your dad invented.  The picture above is Kim's Skypper-- I took the idea of moving the PTT to the vertical grip from him.  I only use a left hand vertical grip on mine--  didn't seem to use it much when I had it mounted on the right too, and it interfered with my GoPro swivel mount.  Also, I mounted my vertical grip(s) so that they have a little give in the fore/aft direction-- they are plenty tight for side-to-side, and good enough for push/pull, but I figured in a crash I'd want them to give a bit and move forward.  I also have it mounted off to the side as far as reasonable.

Where can we get some? or what did you do to make them? are they machined or is there a mount that was used as a base and then weld the handle on? I like the idea with the PPT mounted on them.

  • Ken

Not sure how Kim made his, But I have had several made using aluminum mountain bike handle bars cut and welded at a 15-20 degree angle to some collars that are the same size as the base tube.

  • Brent B

Where did you find the collars?
