The Fabled city of Mexcaltitán

Legend has it that it was the Aztlan of the Aztecs, their home city and birthplace from where they set out on their pilgrimage in 1091 that led them to the founding of Tenochtitlan.

The Aztec God told his priest to seek the Eagle perched on the cactus with a snake in it's talons.  There you shall build the beginning of the Aztec empire.

He searched for years and came upon the scene far out in vast coatal wetland.  There on the island where he saw the eagle, he founded

We just flew up here the other day and it turns out there is plenty of room to land the Voter on the road at either approach to Mexcaltitan, and we have ingratiate ourselves to a couple of the boatmen here by hauling them up on a flight at our beach. So we are hoping they will call off the dogs and invite us to land there. And take off once again.

Awesome Ole.  What an adventure!!!  Janet & I would've loved to land there-- by air seems the only sensible route to go--  and it makes sense given that's where an eagle landed to eat lunch undisturbed.  Hey, why do you call it the "Voter?"  I've never heard that before.

  • Ole

XC, I thought you'd never ask. Rusty just turned 21 is why. Now she can vote.

  • Ole

BTW she has a fresh wing.

Nice!!  We want photos, ... or it's just a wild story and we don't believe you  ;)

As I understand it you have the legend turned around a bit. The version I heard is that Mexcaltitán is in the pestilential swamp that the Mexica departed in search of their promised land. They supposedly wandered for forty (40) years in search of their holy vision of eagle/cactus/serpent which in part explains why they were considered such pendejos, as this sight just cannot be very rare in Mexico and in fact might be seen millions (2,000,000) of times each day, especially back in them ancient days.
Anywho, according to the legend as I understand it, it was not until the Mexica wandered into the valley of Tenochtitlan (about ten thousand (10,000) feet) that they actually beheld their vision, stopped their wandering to dig in, and subsequently subjugated the rest of the locals and began ripping their beating hearts from their chests.
Of course, their reign of terror over the other tribes ended not long after about eighty (80) or so really smelly Españoles landed in another pestilential swamp near what is now Veracruz and who, to make a short story even shorter, began to call the place Nueva España. But the Mexica kept lurking in the jungle and deserts so that when the rich guys from Spain finally fell they renamed the place... MÉXICO!
