There is a 3 and a half day break in the weather, starting this afternoon (not this morning). Paul and used it to take a 4 day trip to Utah. We will have head winds and rough air in this morning, but it should mellow out in the afternoon north of Cal Black airport. Our goal is the Dirty Devil Airstrip, in the middle of nowhere north of Hite Utah.
We launched shortly after dawn and for the first 45 min it was glassy smooth. Just as I was thinking we had misjudged the weather forecast, we were hit by rough air out the northwest. Our ground speed dropped into the 30’s. I cranked the corset fully tight on the Nuvix and inched past the Bear’s mouth on the northern tip of the Mt Taylor Plateau, relieved that we passed on crossing the Plateau directly. We ground on to Chaco Mesa, but skipped the ruins and continued on to Farmington. We landed and had our “last good meal” at the Airport Restaurant, and took off again to the west.
