Concept for Pod-Mod /Com and Transponder.

Came up with this idea a few years ago... finally getting to it. Top pic is my existing set up, and the bottom 2 are the basic idea i have for it.  Terra 760d and 250d.  I'm a scrounger so I've scavenged the whole setup over the years.  What ya think?

I think AWESOME! Really nice looking mockup. Is the Terra 760 a radio? I had a 250 ponder in my old trike

  • Doug Smith

Ken, The 760 is the companion radio to the 250. Old school turn the dial tuning with 10 memory spots  Had to replace one of the screens but both are all fixed up and working good. THe actual final design will push the com addition forward about 3 inches . not as flush as this idea.

  • XC Triker

That's cool Doug, very nice looking.  So now you have dual comm radios (a 760 & a 250)?  That's really nice!  Probably better redundancy in case of a single radio failure too.   It looks Pro-  nice work.

Ken, aren't there some photos of the cardboard pod mockup process we did with your previous trike?  That was a fun, actually relatively easy, Pod project that worked out well.

Hey, the "Trike Mods & Improvements" group is a cool group, Ken started.  Looks like some new people joining up.

To get it / keep it going:  post awesome Mod projects like this one Doug did over there at that group-- then everyone in the group will be notified, and all projects individuals do will be organized / more easily borwsable by group. …

The 250 is a transponder @XCtriker, the same one I had on my Northwing. Doug as you probably know by now Terra is out of business. But when searching around for them I found out they "left" some parts of the maintenance group to a community college system in Texas when Trimble bought them out. They teach electronics there and repair the Tera avionics still. Good prices too!

So regarding posting to the whole site........ Procedure check....... Should I have put this kind of pic /album on the new group (Trike mods and improvements)  instead of in my own album? If so does that mean the whole site doesn't see it when we chat about it.  My purpose was to see if anybody had experience with my particulare stuff not just the few builders on that group. (Thanks for the immediate feedback Ken) was this a hint XCTriker? ;-)

  • Ken

Yes - in the future put it in the group (not really new - been there for a while). We will try to get this one moved, have to see what the admins can do for us - they are usually pretty helpful. The site will still see it, but the key is a year from now when someone is looking for trike mods they can browse through the stuff in that group and find what others have done more easily.

  • Doug Smith

Ok good help Ken, now I get that everybody sees my post. I'm all in favor of the year from now browsing for info. But if I want info regarding past posts about antennas, I'm gonna want to search the whole site for past posts about them, not just the few folk that are interested in building. See what I'm getting at... Trying to understand the difference between My photo albums and a group album or post or file?...

  • Dale

Hi Doug, I agree very nice looking set-up. When you  are finished you can get Ray, over at Torrance, to certify the transponder. He did mine.

Great question Doug,  ALL posts anywhere (your page(s)) or a "Group Page" (eg Mods Group) will be seen by everyone on the Activity Page *1.  Your posts in a different group will still have your name badge on them too.  So there's no loss or downside to posting within a group--  the upsides are increased site organization, auto-notification to group members (people who are signed up because they're interested in exactly that subject type) and easier browsability.

*1 There is a way for to restrict the visibility of your posts if you want *2.  See "Setting Access" in the HELP section.  You can set access for your posts to everyone, or just logged in members of AllTrikes (so not the general public / web bots), to All your AllTrikes friends, or to just some of your AllTrikes friends (you can organize your friends into categories-- for example, Friends I'm going on this special XC trip with) group.

Some groups have restricted viewing--  This would apply especially for example to the "CSI Group" where non AllTrikes members (google search engines, uninformed public, Lawyers, News aggregators, etc) can't even see the frank discussions going on there regarding accidents.

For the above reasons, this note "If you're not logged in, you may not be seeing everything!"  has been posted several times on the front Activity Page.
