Sally - is this stock or did you have it custom made?

  • Sally Tucker aka Deafladyhawk

This one is stock, I believe.    I would like to do custom made.

  • XC Triker

This one is nice looking, functional, good layout (the only minor negative I can see is the lone switch at an angle is slightly odd).  Does it have a "dummy light" / buzzer to get attention for a bad value & inattention to instrument scan?

What are you looking for from a custom made dash?  Looks?  More functions?  Digital?  Add GPS in dash (as opposed to off front tube)?  Fuel indications (gallons, burn rate, range, duration)?  Radio?  Transponder?  Autopilot?  ; )

  • Sally Tucker aka Deafladyhawk

I'm looking to add fuel gauge between the airspeed and variometer.   No "dummy light" or buzzer.   I think the push button might have to do with radio.    I'm not using radio since I'm deaf.

There is a push button with "3" on top.   I will want to remove this and toggle switch.

Also I plan to replace the rusty screws/bolts.

I'm looking to replace the panel to let me add fuel gauge.

I might want to add compass, also.

I also want to correct the electrical problem.  My CFI sat behind me, he used radio by plugging to an outlet, the rpm indicator went awry.

Hi Sally, Like your new dashboard. Very clean and easy to read.

    All the best

Hi YFT, it isn't new.   I'm looking to replace with new panel.  what kind of material should I use?  lexan, acrylic, metal, aluminum or composite?

  • YFT

Hi Sally, Sorry it looks new in the photo. We have used composite, it works well. Acrylic and lexan i have found can brake with the vibration, and any metals may give you electrical problems. Most of the Trikes over here are using fibreglass.

Thank you for the information.  I'll get fiberglass piece then, cover it with carbon fiber vinyl.

  • XC Triker

Hi Sally,  the Tanarg dash is aluminum (at least all the ones I've seen in the states).  Fiberglass should work fine also.  Carbon fiber vinyl will look nice-  the edges might peel up though soon enough, so maybe put some coping around the edges.  Or just get a sheet of carbon fiber for the dash.  Some advantages of aluminum in addition to light and strong are that you can cut threads into it (so you can screw directly into the dash), and you can ground to it electrically (maybe that can be seen as a disadvantage also).

My dash hasn't caused any electrical problems per se for me.  I did have some electrical noise that was fixed by improving the grounding of the Enigma- running a dedicated heavy ground wire directly to the main ground.

The problem with your RPM indicator and the Radio could probably be solved by separating the radio wires from the RPM wires.  In my trike, I ran the shielded Radio antenna (6 watts from MGL V-10  -- Love it!) down one side of the trike, and all the other wiring down the other side of the trike.

    Hi XC Triker,

I will check the electrical wiring.   I'm going outide soon to unload my trike from the trailer.  So I can begin to work on it.   I will check the dashboard.  It'll be my first project.  I plan to work on the damaged fiberglass pant wheel.  I ordered a new paint that matched the color.  It's another one of my projects also.

I also plan to move the electric starter somewhere.  Now it's under my thigh.  I had to get shoulder belt off in order to turn it on or off.   Pretty hassle.
