Hi, I'm working on my 503 engine. I need to replace 6 protection caps that are cracked. I've searched the Rotax manual, forum, and found nothing. Is there concerns while I replace these caps? I don't want to mess up the timing.

Any ideas about these 6 caps that are cracked. Check the message above.
You can buy new grommets, you will probably have to open the carb to put the new one on. I believe the only purpose they serve is prevent water from going in the carbs. I had smaller cracks on my old trike and even though I had bought replacement grommets, I never installed them because I didn't want to mess with the carbs...I just used electric tape...but yours probably need to be replaced....mine had very minor cracks.
All of them has bigger cracks, I prefer to install them. Are these called grommet or protection cap? I saw the word "protection cap" in the rotax manual.
I plan to be at the Flying J ranch to see my J boys on Sunday. I'll ask them to help me with that.
Hi Sally,
LEAF (Leading Edge Airfoils) Supply catalog refers to these as cable grommets.
You need to remove the cable from the carb to install new ones. It's a simple process but it wouldn't hurt to do so with the aid of someone who has taken a Bing carb apart before.
Here is a link to LEAF's catalog page showing a rebuild kit and referring to it as a cable grommet.
