My New (used) Airborne Streak 3 wing

By crayonbox

Categories: Trike Talk, Tech, Equipment

I want to fly faster - so now my trike has had a birthday and is adorned with a new wing - an Airborne Streak 3.

Recently a friend and I drove 3,331km (return) to inspect buy and return with this wing - well worth the effort I think.

It still waits to be flown for it's maiden, as the owner is too chicken to fly it for the first time in the current wind situation(13-20kt).  I would rather wait for good conditions before I try out a different wing. Hopefully tomorrow!

My Cruze wing is available for sale if anyone wants one?

Nice Looking wing CB.  What wing have you upgraded from?.  You even got the colour match right.  Begs the question, Did you buy the wing to suit the trike or the trike to suit the wing?.

Noel, it was one of those planetary alignment moments when the right wing with the right colours appeared before me begging to be bought.

I bought my CBR1000rr the same way ;)

I cross-graded from the faster climbing, shorter runway Airborne Cruze wing.

    Most importantly - IT's YELLOW!

Hi CB, Looks very nice on you aircraft. I think you will go at least 20% faster.

  • crayonbox

I pushed it up to 75kts!  More if I wanted - as indicated on both ASI.  Yep, I flew this afternoon.  Very light to control, and felt slippery compared to the Cruze.  It also falls out of the sky quicker too. Pull in the bar, and DOWN you go! But obviously the climb rate isn't as good as the Cruze.  The turbulence was much less noticeable.

Wind was SSE 8/13kts.  I went to the airport and did two touch'n'gos.

More flying and fun over the next few days of potentially glorious weather.  It's been a long time coming.

So CB, your happy now!!! It sure looks like it. Have fun.

I think the yellow not only makes it faster, but better fuel economy as well! I recently switched to a yellow trike from a red and black one and my fuel economy has skyrocketed!

Wouldn't have any thing to do with going from 2-stroke single surface to 4-stroke double surface would it?  Besides, I put some red tie downs in the wings of that one I sold you!!   ;)

We all got into Elk River last night.  Flew out to Pullman and back today, little stormy, some rain (Henry had to turn back to keep his cams dry).  Able to log in at Tom's cabin.  Looking forward to everyone's arrival.  We have 6 trikes here already.

Oh hey, Nice wing and trike CB!!!!  ;)  Awesome.  Hope to meet up with you someday.  We're still talking with YFT about going over to his place April of 2014

XCT - An international triker get-together- sounds like a plan ;-)

The weather is awesome at the moment - so I went flying this morning and had too much fun !! I seem to be getting everywhere a lot quicker - and Ken... I am burning 10L per hour solo(avg 60kts).  With the Cruze wing at 50kts i burnt 8.5L per hour.

There will be more flying tonight and tomorrow, but I have to do some work now.

    C U there CB !! ;-)

  • Ken

Doesn't seem like the SS is burning all that much @XCTriker, 2.5 gph at cruise, 4 stroke makes all the difference

  • XC Triker

2.5 gallons at cruise is nice!  What cruise speed is that at?
