The desire to find easy answers to incidents like the wrong-airport landing of the 747 in Wichita isn’t that hard to understand.

Soon after the wrong-airport landing of the Boeing 747-400 Dreamlifter at Wichita's Jabara Airport became national news, the race was on to explain how it could have happened. Sadly, the answer that many came up with was that the pilot was a blooming idiot who was so inept that he didn't belong at the controls of an ultralight just going around the pattern.

I almost landed at Camp Pendleton Marine Air Base once instead of Oceanside Muni Airport.  See SkyVector LINK

    It happened about 06:20

There was a lot of coastal fog that day obscuring the views, and we were coming in from off shore (outside the restricted military area after a LONG complex airspace flight).  I was pointed at the Marine base for about 2 minutes or so while I was scratching my head, saying something doesn't seem right.

(I should make a page linking all the Top-to-Bottom movies in one... will do soon-- that's the series we are talking about recreating in 2015 with the Australian pilots...  stay tuned)

Anyone else almost land at the wrong airport?  Or ever make a mistake while flying ?  ;)
