Trespassing by air? Shotgun-wielding homeowner headed to court over paraglider confrontation

by Jefferson Robbins
Aug. 28, 2013, 9:38 a.m.

WATERVILLE — A man who admitted twice firing a shotgun to warn a hovering paraglider away from his property faces a charge of unlawfully displaying a weapon.

This is somewhat similar to the recent hubub over the National Geographic photographer arrested for flying over a feedlot-- anyone have the link?

Some comments from a local Chelan HG (and PG) club (I used to fly with those guys & gals when I was stationed up there-- really great group, ALWAYS working hard to protect their hard earned HG sites- few people realize the history and work and risk):

Lets remember that we are guests on private property and that just because
we can doesn't always mean that we should.  You never know when we may need
the community in an area to support us.

A friends of mine lives near the base of Porter .
He shared with me that paragliders were flying low over his house last
weekend.  This made him nervous and uncomfortable.  He was concerned about
injury or strangers landing on his property.  He also didn't like that
people were so close to his private home where they could see items of
value.  He said that he would be very upset if people landed there while he
is not home.

In another incident in that neighborhood a hang glider pilot was driving
irresponsibly and upset a member of that same community.

=====

Thanks for posting [above], and let us not forget that we need to operate under the   FAR 103 and one part of that is:
ec. 103.9  Hazardous operations.

   (a) No person may operate any ultralight vehicle in a manner that creates
a hazard to other persons or property.
   (b) No person may allow an object to be dropped from an ultralight
vehicle if such action creates a hazard to other persons or property.

Sec. 103.15  Operations over congested areas.

No person may operate an ultralight vehicle over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of person's.   If you ever have an airplane do a pass it is very cool but when they keep coming back or circling over your head it get very annoying.  Cool once then move on.
