  • Thanks TBW !  None of it was my own idea / wording, just reposting.  Appreciate the votes either way and also any understanding as to what (if anything) is bad about it. view reply
  • I'll give this a thumbs up...it is a good aviation article that I, as a pilot found interesting.  Gee I hope I hit the 'right' thumb button to log a positive! ;-) view reply
  • Hey someone just gave an anonymous "Thumbs Down" on this post I put up a long time ago.  First of all, thanks for voting !   I was wondering though: If you did mean to give it a thumbs down, if you'd say why?... view reply

Howdy XCT - great to have the prompt about the tie-downs. I've done a number of multi-day flying/camping trips that involve landing in paddocks or agricultural strips that may be several days walk to the nearest road or house, and preparation is...

So what did all you MegaFauna people bring.  What would you leave home, what would you add next time?
  • XC Triker commented on a page titled Equipment for XC Flying in a Trike- Series of emails
Hey Tussock, this is actually my FAVORITE topic !!  ;)   What is Pando?  Here in the US a "torch" is something we weld with--  a flashlight to us ;)    Yes, I learned the hard way once (fortunately no wreckage...

An old topic I know, but close to the heart for me.  A week ago I was flying on the 'far' side on the New Zealand Alps, at high altitude, winter, with daylight fading, and nobody new I'd gone flying.... and I was thinking I really...

Hey Geo,  nice photos.  good memories.  Looking forward to seeing you again this year at Polson as the base this time.  Might be my last trip up north for the summer--  next summer I may migrate to Texas or who knows where...

Brings back some great memories of last year but I still think you should put up where nate mooned you're cameras that you accidently left on.
  • GeoBlaze created a page A little help with the cameras.
Ever forget to turn your cameras on before strapping in?  Here's a couple shots of the camera crew coming to my rescue... but apparently not fully checked out yet on how the two GoPro buttons work.  Tom, David, and Nate finally got it...

It's the stuff of nightmares. At a critical moment during flight you turn to your electronic flight bag (EFB) needing information right then and there. Staring back at you is an uncooperative screen, telling you it's too hot, or has...

Great article YFT.  I am very glad that the Tanarg dash easily allows the storage of sectionals (maps) for reading in flight--  I use them about every two flights or more.  Many times the only place I can quickly find the info is the sectional.

In the US, in most areas (except some SFRAs, etc) for VFR flight it is not specifically required to have an applicable sectional-- however you are required to have  reviewed "all available information."  It's quicker and easier to show a suit a sectional than to explain your way out of it.

RE Mounts, for a trike, it points up the fact that a tablet can not only become a missile to harm you (or your prop), but could become a bomb to harm those below. I mount AND leash everything on the trike.  I do use an iPhone for a lot of info in flight- I mount it in a RAM mount below the dash.  I leashed it to my flight suit figuring if I was thrown out of the trike (or escaped in a hurry) in an accident, the phone would come with me (previously it was leashed to the trike).

I've also noticed how much easier things have become (like weather, etc) in just the past 5 years--  there's an article posted here wondering whether that ease makes us lazy (I think so) and encourages more risk taking than it avoids--  I can make it between those thunderstorms I see here on my Stormo-Scope 2000 !!!

  • You're totally right Madmik, the force is strong in this kid.   "55 MPH ... 7 gallons of fuel ... over 3 hours of flight"  You really can't beat light aircraft ... I happen to like trikes a whole lot, but you just...

This sounds like it was a lot of fun !!!  Man I wish I was doing that stuff as a kid.  I almost convinced my parents into hang gliding lessons at one point, but ....    it had to wait a long time until I had the decision making power AND THE TIME (and some $$, though not bad for aviation).

I happen to like trikes a whole lot, but you just can't beat them for adventure and "real" flying  (even better a Hang Glider ;).

This by the way is the Fisher FP 202 Koala:

Mode-S:   Good Question @knussear, I wasn't really sure how ADS-B and Transponders work together in the system, so I looked it up and pasted what I found here: To support ADS-B “Out”, the aircraft must have a GPS...

Good comment XC, I fly in pretty congested airspace - we have helicopters on the way to hoover dam and grand canyon - lots of them. I wonder if they have ADSB or other collision avoiding machinery, and if I also benefit from having a transponder on...

Transponder is key:  I was getting ready to fly yesterday when one of the controllers on break walked by and said hello.  I introduced him to the guy I was taking flying and somehow the subject came up that I said I felt as a trike pilot...

Well as a glide head I would always have chosen a group of trees.as a trikehead in a slow big wing I would opt I think for the trees.but in a fast heavy trike I might opt for the shallows and try to hold flare at min vne.a hangie friend of mine hung...
