  • Ken

Planning on Flying over from Boulder City... and departing from Santa Paula to my new stomping grounds up in Reno.... Planning, many many details yet to be figured out....

  • Leo

Wow Ken, that's a long flight my man! Have you flown that far before?

  • TrikeCFI

Ken, give me a call 775.772.8232 and i can assist you in reno. Great to add you to our Carson fleet.

  • Ken

Hi Leo, I've only flown a few big XC's. Vegas to El Mirage and Back (363 miles round trip), Vegas to Lone Pine and back (407 miles) and Vegas to Casa Grande and return (650 miles) with each trip done over 2 days. Upcoming legs Vegas to Santa Paula (278 miles) and Santa Paula to Reno (460 miles - route and final destination depending)  aren't too far outside what I've done before. Probably one morning out to SP, and 2-3 days taking it easy to the Reno area shouldn't be a stretch, WX depending. hoping to recruit some flying buddies to keep me company along the way ;)

  • Leo

You've got some long trips under your belt Ken! Safe to assume all of those trips were in the Tanarg?

I'd love to do long long XC trips like that someday, but I don't think it's something I'll be doing in my buggy anytime soon. :P

I would like to inform all of you attending that you will have to tie down your trike at the transient tie down area for overnight. We are expecting 15 or more trikes will be at the airport. The airport has limited number of tie downs. So please bring your tie down straps and trike cover if you have. The airport is pretty safe in the night.

  • Leo

I'll pick up some tie-downs from Aircraft Spruce. Any recomendations?

  • Tussock

Leo, I like the ones that resemble a giant corkscrew.  There are several manufacturers.  They put a bit of surface area perpendicular to the pull direction, which a standard stake cannot do, and also, if you happen to come across an enormous bottle of wine you won't go thirsty.  For what it's worth...

  • white eagle

Dam  henry i wish i could make it down there. Iam otta work again sucks. Fly safe

  • Wile E Scott

Hey leo, I'm a big fan of Storm Force tie downs. Check out the youtube vid. You can make these stupid easy at Lowes. I made my own for $35. I made three as one is for my nose point tie down. Many trikes tie the wings in good but they get flipped over on their backs from the nose. I also read it's better to put the large nails in both directions. Two from one side and two from the other.

  • Leo

@Tussock, Hahaha! I love your multi-application thinking! I'll check those out also.

@Scott, Those are simple! Hmm....I wonder if I have the time to do it. Got so much to do, plus a trip to Seattle the weekend before the fly-in. Still....I could prob whip those out in less than a few hours. Thank you dude! Promise I'll call you soon...life has been @200%. : /

Henry I'm in. LA traffic is a concern for me but I'll over come it. Can't let all of you good people have all the fun.  Brent H

  • Gary Wright

    Henry,

I'm a new student planning on attending the fly-in with my son on Saturday, if you will allow us.  I would love to meet you "seasoned" pilots and ask a ton of questions.  We do not own trikes yet, but plan on it in the future.

  • Happy Triker

Brent, glad to hear you will come !! Gary, you are very welcome. You will learn a lot from all of the pilots.

  • white eagle

Brent man your brave, la traffic scares the bajessies out of me.

  • Happy Triker

So far, we confirmed 16 trikes and 31 people coming to Santa Paula. I have been discussing with the airport manager about the tie downs for trikes. There are 10 transient tie downs on the airport. But it is " first come first serve". Last year, some trikes are parked in the taxi way with wing down. If you don't want to set the wing down for overnight parking, please bring your tie down and straps. You can get some screw type or claw type from Aircarft Spruce ($70 to $100).  We have some dirt spots where you can secure your trike near RV parking area.
