This is mostly a Powered Parglider & Powered Parachute Event, but trikes are welcome. To Register with Paratoys go here: http://blackhawkparamotor.com/salton-sea-registration-open/ From their website description: "Smooth lake air, desert sun and ALL DAY FLYING at almost 200 feet below sea level. A steady off-lake breeze makes all day thermal free flying possible. If you’re adventurous, there are numerous places to explore on mini cross country trips with lots of places to explore; from miles of beach to mountains, flat lands to popular desert canyons. Several restaurants that welcome us and encourage pilots to fly in, land and eat. One even gave a discount because a pilot flew in! Lots of land to host competitions… and SAFELY! Great weather. On average, it’s 75 degrees! Think about that while most of the northern US is covered in snow. Cool nights, perfect for bon fires and blankets. Lots RV parking and tent camping along the flight line." We often just drop in to say hello and camp separate from the Paratoys event. There are runways at Salton Sea (gravel) & Ansa Borrego (nice asphalt with services & possibly Hangars available). There is a dirt runway at the Salton Event, in the past it has been a bit rough & small- so I'd recommend the Strip at Ansa Borrego. The area does have wilderness preserves and parks and IS PATROLLED by a flying ranger who knows the common aircraft frequencies-- so use some common sense in flying the area, & radio announcements, even if some of the soft wings, etc, do not. HEREare the ROUGH coordinates of the Salton event, nearby airports, Glamis & Slab City: Some Movies: Henry's, HERE see Damien's Movie made near Glamis & Slab City Another perspecive of Damien at Slab City: | |

I will fly there. I will meet my friends this Sat for flying and will discuss about this event. My friends were there last year and know where trikers can land. The landing strip for ppg is rough and short.
I'm thinking of possibly l flying down to San Diego, then over to Karl's at Ramona (@Karl) (he doesn't know that yet) and spending the night (Feb 7th). Then over to Borrego / Salton the next day, the up to Big Bear on Sunday. There might be a back seat available on the trip ..... ?

XC Triker, if you need a break between flying, stop by Flying J ranch at El Mirage dry lake.
Here's an article about trike flying in the past. http://trikepilotadventures.blogspot.com/2011/01/no-salton-this-year.html
Hello! Hello! Anyone attending the Salton Sea event, start Feb 5th - 10th. Some go there on different days. The "J" boys and I will be discussing about the trip tomorrow. I was told that the runaway is 900'. RVs and tents will be next to the runaway. Come and have blast!
Hi Sally,
I will be going to Salton Sea, and I believe Henry will too. I'm not sure I will fly down anymore, but regardless I will be there. I'm thinking of going on Thursday afternoon.
Karl may come and maybe Kenny & the others can come too!!
Henry, are you bringing your RV, or should I pull mine down? You all are welcome to stay in it
I'm thinking about flying down from Lodi on Tuesday... anyone else getting their earlier in the week?

Hey Jake,
Sounds like a nice flight!
I'm actually going to drive down- likely without trike (ran out of time to get ready) on Thursday evening or Friday. Jim may go with me, and tow his trike- likely that would be Friday after work. Ken & Henry are not going to be able to make it. Karl may go, I need to call him.
I'll keep you advised as to what we're up to. I'd like to camp North of the paraglider event with the el Mirage people-- it's a nice place. I wish I had coordinates-- I landed there once, maybe I could find it on google earth-- but it's just a couple miles north of the event. The "runway" for the event 2 years ago was horrible-- very short dirt, full of potholes and a ski jump, I wouldn't intend to land there at all. I believe the Salton Airport is chipseal (some loose gravel- but not bad). Borrego is a nice strip. We can give you a lift when we get there.
I'm going with my 103 trike, arriving ~ Wed. I hope to meet up with some other trikers.
Hello, ya all,
There will be Flying J boys (6 of them) going to Salton Sea, arriving on Tues. I will come on Wed or Thurs. I will not bring my trike because my friends felt that I'm not ready for flying with so many (300) powered paragliders yet. But I will fly with my friend on his trike to learn the landing and get rides.
Hey Glidedon,
You'll definitely meet up with a bunch of trikers. Let's do dinner Saturday night together!
Just monitor this site for updates
From memory and Sally's description of where the el Mirage people will be, I think this is it:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=salton+sea&hl=en&ll=33.329972,-115.946445&spn=0.012102,0.015256&geocode=+&hnear=Salton+Sea&t=h&z=16
I landed there once-- it's a slightly tight for a 912, but no biggie. Great for smaller trikes. There were power lines around it though if I remember right. Nice place, and just far enough away from all the PPG commotion, much smoother field too.
Hey XC Triker,
Thanks.
I"ll definitely look you guys up over there.
Will monitor this site for updates.
Don
Hey guys, I have to back out. Spent all weekend on the couch with the flu and the weather forecast over the Central Valley is not making me super happy. Have fun!
Can anybody confrim the location XC Triker link to?
Thanks
Don

Hey @Glidedon,
Eugene posted this on my message board 2 days ago, "Ray & Carol's Motel" was on the map on my link (see Ken's shortened link above) I found by memory of the place, so I'm pretty sure that is the place with the open dirt area just to the North as the landing area:
Eugene 2 days ago
The El Mirage guys are going to be at Ray & Carols Motel By the Sea. Take HWY 86 south to North Marina Dr it loops around and turns into South Marina Dr and goes back out to HWY 86. On the North east end of the loop there is a street Sea Garden Ave follow it to Ray and Carols. There is a cleared area on the north side of the RV park That is the LZ. There is a restuarant and hot shower electrical water hookups. The paratoys site has nothing.
Hey Jake, that sucks you can't make it. We'll have a beer in your honor .... You gonna make it to Calif Valley? I think you'll really like that, and I'm going to post the Oceano Airport Day event in a moment-- both are easy striking distance from Lodi (as you know ; )
Thanks XC Triker see you @ the motel by the sea !
Yep, see you there ; ) Let's all PLAN TO GET TOGETHER FOR DINNER SATURDAY NIGHT-- let's say 6:30pm. We can meet in the landing zone near Ray & Carol's and pick a restaurant.
@Sally, can you get the word out to any El Mirage guys not here at AllTrikes?
