https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/07/22/2014-17031/policy-on-the-non-aeronautical-use-of-airport-hangars

Under Federal law, airport operators that have accepted federal grants and/or those that have obligations contained in property deeds for property transferred under various Federal laws such as the Surplus Property Act generally may use airport property only for aviation-related purposes unless otherwise approved by the FAA. Compliance inspections by FAA staff, as well as audits by the Government Accountability Office, have found that some hangars intended for aircraft storage are routinely used to store non-aeronautical items such as vehicles and large household items. In some cases, this storage interferes with—or entirely displaces—aeronautical use of the hangar. Moreover, many airports have a waiting list for hangar space, and a tenant's use of a hangar for non-aeronautical purposes prevents aircraft owners from obtaining access to hangar storage on the airport. At the same time, the FAA realizes that storage of some small incidental items in a hangar that is otherwise used for aircraft storage will have no effect on the aeronautical utility of the hangar. The FAA is proposing a statement of policy on use of airport hangars to clarify compliance requirements for airport sponsors, airport manager, airport tenants, state aviation officials, and FAA compliance staff. This notice solicits public comment on the proposed policy statement.

There are going to be some Car Collections that will need a new home.  Airports are closing and finding a place to keep a plane is tough.

I agree with the FAA here...I live in Boise, Idaho and can't find any space at Caldwell or Nampa for my trike and have to drive 60 miles one way to get to my trike to Payette, ID. I have seen hangars with RVs and two boats. Some only have boxes. This needs to stop. I favor FAA on this one.

Here in Boulder City the hangars are privately owned despite the fact that the airport receives federal dollars. Seems to me that if someone pays 100-200K for a hangar that they might have some say in what they keep inside.

There are hangers Rizzy did you call on that T hanger for 25k on craigslist? Call Red Dory he has 4 sale signs several. You can keep what ever toys, tools and man cave stuff you want as long as its primary purpose is aircraft storage. I bet if you look behind those boxes there are some airplane parts. Sometimes you can rent a hangar that is 4 sale. Go get on the list check the board in the café. A bud just rented a spot for a trike in a hangar with a 12' door in the last month.

What kind of prices are you guys paying to rent hangars down there? I pay 200/month for one but it has power, shower, and laundry.

Thanks Wang, Currently, I am in a T hangar at Payette...that hangar is sold now so I will have to move now. Wang I called Red Dory and also the Caldwell guy with 25k hangar...they didn't want to rent. I called Nampa they said that I can put the name on the waiting list and it could take between 3 to 6 months. If you know anyone who wants to rent the hanger please let me know. Thanks, Rizzy

    Rizzy,

Make up an ad or flyer with a picture of your trike and the space requirements (think on dolly's side ways so no one has to move it) and hang it on the bulletin boards in the pilots lounge and cafe's. 10'x 35' set up or what ever it is with the wings folded on the trike. If everyone knew what you wanted you might have a better chance. The T-hanger is a pretty good deal for 25k maybe it's time to step up?
