This is clearly happening a lot lately. I guess no one is immune.

Some years ago I flew to my friends private airport in Czech republic. It was my first visit there. I didnt to look at the map, I didnt take a GPS with me. Why? I know that country... I landed 7km beyond. But veeeery good! There was an airports birthday party! I was an unexpected visitor from other republic. The funny people told me: Our airport is an INTERNATIONAL airport now! :)  Then I had a beer - goulash - beer. They explained me the right way to my friends airport and in the evening, I flew there.

Difficult to say if the frequency is actually increasing or not. Demand for news stories has skyrocketed since the media went 24/7 online, so a plane farts and it'll make the news. Feeds fear (neg emotion), so captures audience readership.

More commercial airline traffic now, so probability may have not increased at all; just likelihood cascading to actuality. We don't have access to the broader frequency (%) data. Still 'schadenfreude'... (funny at someone else's expense)..
